Hey has anyone put a webasto or espar heater on the lly? Just curious where everybody tied into the coolant lines that won’t overrun the webasto water pump while the vehicle is running? Any help is much appreciated!

I just put an espar in my LML, one buddy did a Webasto on his LB7 and another on an LMM on Monday.
Cut the coolant hose that comes from the thermostat housing to the heater core and tie in there with the discharge from the webasto going into the heater core. It will circulate through the webasto with the engine running just fine.

Okay yeah and see the guy I bought the heater which also rebuilds about 80 espar and webasto heaters a year said to make sure it doesn’t get the full flow from the engine water pump when running because it will wear out the tiny water pump in the heater. Don’t want to have a premature failure and wanted to confirm his theory.

He says he puts a fitting like this in the inlet side of the heater core and in between the tee fittings going towards the webasto is a check valve so it doesn’t want to try and flow backwards

Old thread but it’s that time of year again. Just started my install of my Espar today that I kept from my LML. Just need to run fuel and wires. Found a different location on the classic that I really like. Under the air box mount plate. Fits mint with some minor tuning up to the bracket down there.

Also, straight from Webasto, no issues running it inline with the heater core inlet. It’s actually what they recommend. No need for check valves and whatnot. 4 years on buddies plumbed like this in his LB7-no issues.

Does it heat well without plugging in the block heater? Do you notice a voltage drop when you go to start? Also what model did you buy? I have an 06 LLY/LBZ manual.

The whole idea of having one of these is so you never have to plug it in.

I have an Espar D5S. It’s similar to the Webasto Thermostat Top C or new model Espar D5 rated for about 13000 btu/hr.

It will heat the engine up to 140F from -20 in about 30-40 min-and thaw the windshield. Two hour run time for each time setting and once it’s up to its max set point it just idles along so no noticeable difference in batt voltage as you’re also cranking a warm engine. It only draws 28 watts at full tin running and when it’s idling only about 8 watts.
Uses about 1/2-3/4 quart/liter of diesel an hour depending on outside temp.

Install done. Works great as it did before. First time I ever installed one in this location. I like it so long as I don’t hit anything on that corner…..

Hey guys I am new to the diesel world. I bought a 2022 2500 HD sierra AT4 in June and was wondering if these Webasto heaters will work with my truck ?

Thanks

They are generally a pretty universal design, so I'm pretty sure they would work. I believe there haven't been any changes since 2020 trucks and I would think there would be heater on those by now.
Where do you live Alaska or something? Most places don't get cold enough that they're necessary. Good batteries and fresh fuel filters these trucks will damn near start anytime without even being plugged in.

Hey Fellas, i recently installed my Espar with a pro start box, i used LBZ's diagram to tie into my heater core, the Espar kit i have also has a External pump to the heater unit itself, i have a steep pull up to the shop, so i usually get up there around 190-196f for coolent temp (around 78f outside temp) after i installed the kit i hit 208f but it was much warmer today (88f outside) so its possible it is just the weather . I tied mine directly into my sliptank as to burn company fuel not mine lol. Here is how i mounted/routed my kit. the Fuel line/fuel pump power slid between the steering box and the frame which works for me. Espar kit comes with a bunch of fancy connectors which i just cut off to use butt connectors. Easier then trying to figure out how to pin/crimp the connectors. Hope this helps.
