So, pardon the blatant ignorance here, but can anyone explain how they work?

To me, the truck still sees a weight on the receiver, I am not sure how this somehow transfers a load to the front of the truck any different than a regular bumper pull.

I can see you getting more of a load on the hitch but really not seeing how you can transmit that load any different.

Go easy, its Sunday, don't put on the thinking cap till tmmr. :D

It's like a pair of scissors. The blade attached to the thumbhole is the ground and the other blade is the truck chassis. Binding down the WD bars is like squeezing the handles together. The blades are forced together along their entire length. This might not be the best explanation but I worked all night and should be in the bed right now.

Best way I can describe it is without a WD hitch, all the tongue weight is "pulling" the back of the hitch down, where as with a WD setup, it is pushing down on the front side of the hitch, thus transferring load to areas other than the back of the truck.

imagine sticking a long pipe into your hitch and trying to pick up the back of the truck. That is what WD hitch does when you pick up the bars to tension them, which then forces down the front of the truck.

Still cant believe that it works, but it does.
