I was just doing some quick searching and found a pile of places for $400 000 and under-lots of bank repo's and stuff. Nice places too with pools and whatnot. San Bernadino County area. I am not really looking for city living, more small town country living or in the mountains somewhere.

I don't know shit about California. No idea where to buy.

Snow over your head to desert sand in places we don't talk about...4 seasons to 1 season...freeways that look like parking lots(going 70mph) to 2 lane roads with weeds in the center divider...and everything in between. What are you looking for? Or do you have an area that you need to be close to.

I'm looking more towards the in between the snow over the head to desert, weeds in the middle of the road type places. I don't need to be anywhere in particular. Just somewhere closer to the almost year round racing and surfing and still be able to snowboard once in awhile if my heart desires. When I'm not working, I have a month of time to do WTF I want so remote location is totally cool!! If I want to shoot off a couple rounds from my shotgun, I want to be able to do that.

You will find something nice in your price range but it won't be in the city. Who the hell wants to live in the city anyways? Good luck. :D

Santa Ynez, (North) Santa barbara county.
No Snow, 90-100deg in the summer. You can still find large lots but they are not cheap! Close to local surfing beaches, a bit of a drive for a day of snow boarding but do able. 3-4 hours you can be anywere in LA. 5(?)hrs to the Bay area.

Don't know much about the Cali prices for homes, but in our area of Fl, you can get a decent home in the mid 300's . The same home would have been 500 - 600 two years ago. Can you say "lost equity". I could buy 6 new loaded Duramaxes with the devaluation of my place, because of the adjustment. Should have sold out and moved into that double-wide when times were good.

It's a good time to buy, here.

Any suggestions on where to search to find this? I honestly don't really want/need to be in the city-that's why I have a truck!! Any area's where I should look? I honestly have no clue.
