Anyone ever notice this erosion on Duramax water pump covers? Trucks got 175k on it

Yes. Saw it when we fixed the reluctor wheel. Luckily we had already bought a complete replacement pump and housing to change as we had it all apart anyways.

I had to put mine back together as is because I couldn't source one yesterday and needed the truck. Is it a wrong/degraded coolant thing like the 6.4 p.s. or does a certain brand of water pump do it? I had the truck apart about 35k miles ago for the o.e. pump leaking. Replaced it with an oreillys one and it leaked almost from the start. Finally got around to replacing it but I don't remember that erosion being there at 140k miles.

Coolant that's been in to long the pH changes and it eats away at the housing. It also eats the heads where the cups go on lb7s.Ive seen them eaten out bad .....and not in a good way lmao. The housing is still fine unless it's into a seal face.
