I have been looking around at different brand 50mm Wastegates.. I just can't see the reason to spend $500-600 on a wastegate! I got on ebay and ran across some other brands there around around $200. A wastegate is a wastegate, it should work just as well shouldn't it? Its not like Im buying a $50 cheapo.. I think it will be ok, any opinions?

You never know until you try. Personally I think Tial is outstanding and when it comes to boost control external wastegates can be kind of hard to tune. So its up to you really I just think the consistency is the real key and tial has proved that they are very consistent. I have the tial bov on my truck and its quality is great

worst thing? it melts and doesn't work, sticks and never works the same twice, has lousy springs and relaxes. Didn't read your signature, suggest a DP guage and a boost guage so you can tune them. Take a look at Engineered Diesel, tell Chris i sent you. IIRC they can be had, complete, for less than 5-600 bones.

Good luck.:)

Well its a name brand Wastegate that everyone uses on all other turbo car setups, I searched them and didn't really see any bad reviews.. I understand what ya mean. Just tryin to save a couple dollars on a homemade set of twins if I can

I was gonna try the same one:D

Turbobuick6, Paul, said the cheapos seem fine, hes taken them apart and look like the same diaphrams and such as the name brands. Still some risk i guess, worse comes to, you'll need another gate.

Id sure like to get a TiAL , it would match my BOV, but damn there expensive, and im on a budget.

Well, your boost and drive psi should remain pretty consistant at all times and same with turbo spool. If it should stick shut, drive & boost psi will be higher than normal and stuck open turbo would be lazy. Watch thoese EGT's too. When i get mine, i intend to dissasemble it and give it a good inspection just as insurance, you might or might not wanna screw with it. Also, there V-band mount, so pertty easy to pop off and check out if you think theres a problem.

I would have to guess, i dont personally know, perhaps someone else might?
It would prolly be really screaming, possibly surging, with boost, DP, EGT's way over there normal mark? Im going to run 2 boost/DP/EGT gauges on my twins when i get it on, if i see numbers out of normal parameters, theres a clue somthings up. I dont see why a guy couldnt make a warning system either.

I would bargain to say, if somthings going wrong, im prolly going to notice it. Im pretty well in tune to how my vehicles are operating, not a surefire system by anymeans but it has worked well in the past. Remember, even a nice expensive part can fail too, anythings possible. Using a cheaper part has more calculated risk, ill be the first to admit that. Im willing to try the OBX gate aswell. Im my application, (S472 and IHI) im not too sure its going to be needing the gate a whole lot anyhow, least not till i build the motor and so on. I havent heared anyone state its a piece of crap? If someone knows or has used one, lets hear it! If i can afford a TiAL, HKS,ED, JGS or any other name brand gate when the time comes, Ill consider, I REALLY like Tial's 60mm but its very expensive. We'll see, as for now, plan is to use the OBX copy.

The choice is up to yourself, i cant speak for somthing i havent made myself or used yet. Anything may or may not happen? Im just stating what im going to do and what seems plausable to me;)

I've been wanting to put a external wastegate on my Cummins with Egineered Diesels set-up but it looks awfully pricey, I might try to make my own. My concern with running a cheap wastegate would be if you were throwing nitrous at it and it fails to open and you overspeed it. So thats my interest in running a wastegate for S&Gs on dyno runs.
