Can someone splain to me what all the three letters mean? like LBZ,LBM, and so on thanks alot. also I have a 09 GMC d max, and what 2 things would be the best performance enhancer for this truck and still be a daily driver. Thanks again. Jon

Those are engine codes. LB7 01-04 LLY 04.5-06 LBZ 06-07 LMM 07.5+ I believe.

They are engine codes like stated above.

If I had a 09 the first thing I would do is get rid of the Diesel Particulate Filter with a full exhaust. Second thing would be a tuner to shut the codes off and give ya some extra power. A Quadzilla Stealth 2 or Edge Evo race would be some economic options.

umm the big thing stealing you MPG in the exhaust.

This is the wiki on them:

A diesel particulate filter, sometimes called a DPF, is a device designed to remove diesel particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine. Wall-flow diesel particulate filters usually remove 85% or more of the soot, and can at times (heavily loaded condition) attain soot removal efficiencies of close to 100%. A diesel-powered vehicle equipped with functioning filter will emit no visible smoke from its exhaust pipe.

In addition to collecting the particulate, a method must exist to clean the filter. Some filters are single-use (disposable), while others are designed to burn off the accumulated particulate, either through the use of a catalyst (passive), or through an active technology, such as a fuel burner which heats the filter to soot combustion temperatures, through engine modifications (the engine is set to run a certain specific way when the filter load reaches a pre-determined level, either to heat the exhaust gases, or to produce high amounts of NO2, which will oxidize the particulates at relatively low temperatures), or through other methods. This is known as "filter regeneration". Sulfur in the fuel interferes with many "regeneration" strategies, so almost all jurisdictions that are interested in the reduction of particulate emissions, are also passing regulations governing fuel sulfur levels.

I got rid of mine and could not be happier with what changed.

So your saying get rid of the whole stock exhaust system or just a certain part of it, and I will notice a difference in performance and what would you reccomend for a after market exhaust.. thanks

Get an MBRP full exhaust to ditch the dpf, then buy efi from a vendor on here and tell them the HP you want and have them build the tune for you.

Or just get a ppe programmer if you dont ever have the interest of building your own tunes. :thumb:

MBRP exhaust is what I went with and get a front pipe too it will delete the DOC (diesel cat) too. then nest will be a tuner. EFI-Live is the best thing for the Dmax but it is not for all as it is not a canned tuner.

I took a look at the MBRP web site and it seems they offer a filter back pipe.? Does that eleminate the dpf?? or am I not looking at the wrong thing?

Be aware that as soon as you alter the tune in your truck, which you need to do to remove the dpf, there is a good chance you will lose your powertrain warranty!
