I play a little R&B just loud enough that people can just barely hear it, then watch them look at me like WTF....

Shinedown-Sound of madness.

And usually feel real weak in the gut and have to pee somethin fierce. And one other thing I learned is not to pull after 6. I can't concentrate enough and end up screwing something up.

Nerves. I think it was Pat who said, "You should always hit the head before you go up to the lanes." You never know when some nitwit will oil the track down and cause a 45 minute wait".

AMEN

Especially if you go to US131 right Tom?

I dont really listen to music before racing or pulling. Tobacco products usually do the trick for me.

Well I tripple check my list....all I do so far is truck pull.

Check Track.

Decranked torsion bars. Check

Hitch height at max allowed. Check

Adjust Tire pressure. Check

Weight at 8000. Just came across the scales. Check

4 low. Check

Tow Haul Mode on. Check

A/C off. Check

Fan off. Check

Head Lights off.. clearance lights only on. Check

Checks track again.

Second guesses tires pressure goes and lets 1 more pound out of both fronts.

Checks Track again.

Checks line and picks sled spot point in my mind.

Oh shit Turn laptop on and boot up...shit I am on deck.

Hurry up and wait for computer to boot.

get EFI Live pulled up.

Hurry up and validate parameters on scan.

Shit they're calling my name.

hurry up and start scan.

has to back up to sled ......shit what did I forget.

checks log. Check

3 gear in manual mode. Check

Flag man green flag. check

Boost until I can't hold it. Check

My wallet can't afford breakage. Shit

Backs it down. About 500rpms. And let'r eat.

Flag man waves red.

Hold it WFO for a split second. Neutral and Lets off go pedal. Waits for the dust to clear. Backs up. Drives off.

Shuts off log. Goes and parks truck. Checks log Etc and makes adjustments if necessary and adjusts tire pressure for the next class and moves weight to the front weight bracket.

I didn't know there was time to go to the bathroom, or talk to anyone. Music....is that even an element? :spit:

it depends on the length of time i have.....long waits warrant blasting some disturbed or mudvayne or nickelback.....letting the truck stay at operating temp. short waits are pretty intense and i get gas too, no appetite, shakes, etc. because i dont want to blow up or break anything....win or lose...i am there to learn

Go thru my checklist, twice.
Focus focus focus. Visualize how the run should go while Im waiting in the lanes, then go make it happen.

Really i sit in my truck and go in my own little world and try to relax a bit.

No music for me, like to listen to the engine and a shit load of heartburn LOL!

I dont really listen to music before racing or pulling. Tobacco products usually do the trick for me.

x2 to most of these , I dont get much adrenilane from just making a pass a bit of excitement for sure , though i used to . But when its an actual race with a truck you dont know if you can beat , and the tree starts dropping then ya my hearts pumping and knee's are a bit shakey :D

I dont know if i could do music , it too distracting but i may try it some time to see .

music is just in waiting.... and even then, it's only occassionally. Usually far too busy to worry about music.

In fact, i don't guess I've ever heard anyone blasting in line and certainly not while actually pulling or racing.

Ya those old helmets do the trick,

I've got a black Simpson bandit similar to the one below but with a mirror facesheild. Looks great and feels great and meets our club requipments but damn it was expensive to wear one minute at a time

I just think to myself "HOLY HELL ITS HOT IN THIS HELMET" and then sweat rolls into your eyes then you rip of your helmet to wipe the sweat out of your eyes then you end up holding up the whole line.
