VGT Twin Setup Boost Leak

Looking for some guidance here on what I can do to fix a boost leak going into my vgt valley turbo at the V-band from the atmospheric. If it matters (I'm sure it doesn't) kit is a HSP kit with a S483 and a 72vgt.

I cant for the life of me get the v-band from the crossover pipe going into the 72vgt to seal up.

It sealed up upon initial install and eventually developed a nasty boost leak. I have an upgraded v-band clamp from Danville and also new o-rings straight from Joe and Dave @ HSP but still won't seal up.

The leak isn't horrible but bad enough it shows up at part throttle once the atmo turbo starts building boost. Its pretty tight space in there with the 3" bridge so its been extremely frustrating.

Any advice?

If the mouth flange is still square, try and tighten it first, adjust the atmo turbo to the pipe.

It was square when I checked with a level. I tightened the clamp as much as I felt comfortable with the aluminum piping.

When I install the pipe I loosed the connection to the atmo turbo and the compressor cover for the atmo turbo. Then once I get the v-band into the vgt situated I adjust the atmo and tighten accordingly. Still can't get it to seal.

Maybe the O-ring isn't seating well in the groove but due to the little about of space between the vgt inlet and the y-bridge, its impossible for me to really tell for sure.

Not sure without seeing it but from what I have seen HSP's fit and finish is second to none. Maybe give them a call and see what tips they offer.

This is the problem with having a one piece charge pipe....

I like the idea of it, but if you had a silicone hose connection in the middle you wouldn't be having this problem right now. IMO.

I don't think its a fitment issue. The kit fit great, minus it being one of the earlier kits made from the lighter aluminum. Only issue I had was not getting the cold side IC pipe tight enough for fear of ovaling the pipe that it blew off and destroyed it self (and put a small dent in my hood :(). Again not HSP's fault at all, 100% mine. They have since moved on to heavier material in their later kits.

I think my main issue is the O-ring isn't seating properly in the groove but I can't manipulate it the right way with the y bridge right in front.

Honestly I was thinking that earlier. Would be a bit easier if it was 2 piece.

I use my boost testers and apply shop regulated air then I tighten my clamps and test to make sure it is sealed. Using high torque silicone will do a good job as well. It takes the smallest of things for one if these to leak. Every time you take it off you have to test when you put it together. You can't assume it is sealing up.

I pressure check the system every time I touch a turbo or IC tube, just for piece of mind.

I hope you get it sealed up Lparrill. Boost leaks can drive a guy CRAZY!!!

I had one on my pickup when I went from the 366 to the IHI. I pressure tested it and it had a HUGE leak and I couldn't find it for the life of me. Then I realized I didn't put the top bolt in the cover that has the bracket for holding the 6.6 resonator!!!:(:( Boy did I feel like a dumbass!!!:rofl: I guess thats what happens when you're engrossed in a project and lacking sleep!:D
