Do you need an electronic Variable Vane Brake if you are using a Spade tuner which has it in the Tow Tune??
Thanks

I think that's what dmaxtuner calls his turbobrake. Its just a way we can slow the truck down by closing up the vane fingers inside the charger to create the effect of real exhaust brake.

if you are thinking of a jake brake type I do not think the tuner VGT is as strong, but I have not towed with a exhaust brake in the pipe type. I have the VGT brake and it works pretty good slowing her down. You really hear the turbo whistle when it is clamped closed

Pretty sure the stand alone variable vane controller, and the vgt brake that comes with your tune for towing, are one and the same.

I rode in a dodge that had a real exhaust brake, wow, just like a big rig and very strong, much stronger than a vgt brake. I would really like to have one, but I'm pretty sure it requires a straight vane turbo???

But as far as the turbo brake that comes with the tow tunes from DT, that's about as good as it gets, and on the stock turbo its pretty friggin good, i miss it, the 4094vgt doesnt have half the vgt braking power as the stock turbo

To my knowledge, running a separate vvt brake controller won't do anything more, just waste money, and maybe mess with the tuning, but I really don't know about that, never heard of anyone trying.

Anyone else know about this?

How about a true exhaust brake, can one be utilized while running a VGT, or is a straight vane wastegated set up required?

Using your tap shifter helps, I tow over 10, 000# from time to time and it helps. I tow like an old man, I never go over 65mph or over 5th gear, guess that helps as well.

guess I am old too because I do the same but never tap unless the temps climb and I need the motor to spin faster. but with robs tunes I do not do that now up to 20K GCWR
