What is everyones opinion on valve springs. At what Rpm are they needed? Can they be run without after market keepers or buckets? Do they need to be ran with HD pushrods?

Just trying to get some opinions. I have heard anything north of 4500rpms will get you into trouble with stock valvetrain.

When I tore down my 14k mile stock LBZ I could see clear outlines of the valves in the carbon on the piston tops. They didn't make full or hard contact but that is to close for comfort. I would not trust stock valve springs.

Do they really need to be run with aftermarket keepers and buckets? I am on a budget and want to do springs but really cant afford the rest of the hard parts to go with them but at the same time dont want to do springs and then have a valvetrain failure because of the stock hardware.

X2 on the stock whether the stock retainers and clips can be used with aftermarket springs .

I wouldn't try to run aftermarket springs without all the hardware they are designed to work with. The SoCal springs are actually a smaller diameter than the stock springs, and the way the stock retainers are cut, they don't really fit that well on the new springs. On the spring cups, I would be afraid that the higher spring rate with a smaller footprint would dig into the aluminum head and ruin it. Can you run the stock stuff? Probably. Should you? I wouldn't.

Update , the DPR valve springs can be used with stock hardware , I am[picking up Dustins set and they come with the Titainium hardware , but for those interested after talking to Curtis they can be used , just dont expect the valve train to be good for high really high RPM .

Not sure what tiff you have with the people in so cal, but I do know that they answer the phone, return calls, and return emails. I also know that all the parts I've gotten from Guy have met or exceeded my expectations.
