USED Programmers

I was looking to get a used programmer for my 2003 LB7. I have seen one for a Diablo Predator and in the ad it says that it is VIN locked and that I would have to send it to Diablo to change the VIN.

Is this true for this programmer and are they all like this? Please comment on whether any programmer can be reused on another truck and what brands you have and whether or not they have this feature. Thaniks

Not 100% sure on all programmers but back in the day, before I learned what really matters, the main programmers I delt with as long as you put the truck that the programmer was originally on back to stock, it would then be able to be used on yours and not only vin locked to thier's... Now as I said before I learned what really matters, if you want something that is going to be good for your truck, best mpg, most power, and most drivability, save your money and go with EFI Live... If you have not heard of it and or know much about it def get with some of the vendors on here who offer it and they will be able to talk you into the pros of it no problem at all!

So if they have the programmer and not the truck they used it on AND they didn't put it back to stock, can it be unlocked?

I know about all the different programmers, I just want to know about this VIN lock thing and the possibility of any used programmer not working on another vehicle.

I know on some but not 100% on all, that you can send it in to the manufacture and for a price they will unlock it to be used on another truck! Just have to research on there website or give them a call to make sure they can and will do it!

That Predator is probably the u7180 if I remember correctly. They used to unlock them for $75, then $100. I ran one for a while, they're a decent tuner for towing and such. They are sold unlocked on ebay for $100-250ish though. I think Diablo discontinued them so they may not service them anymore.

If the guy says its locked, I wouldnt buy it. Get one from a user on here or one of the other duramax sites or buy one locally. I see them on craigslist fairly often. For the price of a good used tuner, though, you could probably get an autocal or spade from an EFI live tuner who can rewrite your tunes as you make upgrades down the line.
