OK so my parents borrowed my uncles 02 gmc and they are stuck in Virgina about 100 miles from pa. when they were on their way there the truck shut down on them i drove out to help and the truck threw a bunch of rail pressure codes. so i replaced the fuel filter for them. and that seemed to fix it but now the truck is completely dead in Virgina any ideas on what happened or is there anybody that could help them out. thanks everyone

how many miles are on the truck? Does it crank and just not start? Does it Start stutter and die? Describe exactly how it behaves.

not sure about exactly how its acting cause my mom is kinda bad at describing that kinda stuff but i told them its prob the filter again

Well if possible siphon out the majority of fuel in the tank, refuel and add Power Service change the fuel filter. That should be all that you need to do to fix the problem.

I had similar symptoms on mine a while back, it ended up being the fuse block, it set a the dealer nearly 2 weeks getting diagnosed. This probably isn't whats wrong with your parents truck, I just brought it up to show that it could be the last thing you would think of as far as being wrong.

No kidding Larry. It took a week for the dealer to find a bad FPRV in my 05. At least that one didn't shut me right down but 40mph was as fast as I could go!!

Bad fuel, bad injectors?
if the fuel filter change helped good chance its just a bad batch of fuel and you will need to change the filter AGAIN top up with some fresh fuel and as Nick said add some power service or equivilant fuel additive. Also draining the bottom off the filter might just help if its water in there?

any chance you remeber all the codes?

ok so i drove down and towed their trailer back, turns out my dad changed the filter again and didn't get it tight enough so it was sucking in air and wouldn't start. so now the truck and trailer are back home
