Had to upgrade everything to V8, and updated the firmware and bootloader or bootblock whatever it is, to install this tune. Got everything updated. Everything is communicating but it keeps telling me it cannot communicate with the ECM. The truck will not start anymore. I tried using V7.5 to put the stock tune back in it with no luck.

After reading around, ive since learned one resolution was a new ECM. I have had to resolve a similar no communication issue in the past with a new ECM as well. I can't keep buying people ECM's, its getting old. What is going on here? This part of EFI Live is getting very aggravating for me.

Tried contacting the tuner, voicemail as usual. Waiting for the call.

Thanks.

I had this issue yesterday with my truck, what i had to do was update the bootblock twice. When you update the bootblack right below it there is another bootblack that needs updated as well. I will try and get a screen shot even though i have no clue how but i will try lol. Same error mssg i had yesterday $0101

It won't let me open the screen i need to get to because i don't have the v2 plugged in, but if you open efi8 and goto the bottom righthand corner and click the pic of the v2 it should open a screen to update the bootblack i believe, then click the update and when it finishes there should be another update pop up below. Sorry I'm not good at explaining things but i just went through all this yesterday:thumb:

I know what you are getting at. The flashcan icon in the toolbar, there are two areas to update. Both are updated.

the batteries were low, so i hooked the charger up and do have good voltage now. I unhooked them and let the truck sit. upon hooking them back up, it started. The flashscan licensed the VIN perfectly, went to load the tune and nothing. no data recieved. truck wont start. Unplugged V@ from truck and laptop, exited out of all EFI live programs, open efi live back up, reconnected flashscan, check assume lock is faulty, try alt keys, unchecked high speed, nothing. Tried the procedure a couple times. still nothing. Tried it both in full flash and just cal flash. nothing. letting it reset again now. if it starts this time, its out the door until I can get this figured out.

What are you tuning? As far as I know, Cummins is the only thing you have to flash with the V8 software.

Open with the V7.5 software and save as a .tun file. Also, LLYs are a real PITA, especially if there are any aftermarket electronics on it like a radio or alarm system.

Yea my aftermarket stereo messed with tuning my truck big time. I had to pull the fuse for it and a couple other things before it would take the tunes.

Same exact thing happened to me today Vinny.

Someone wanted me to flash another tuner's DSP5 setup into their truck. The tuner sent the file as a "semi-locked" .ctz file (so I couldnt open it in V7 and flash it that way)

Anyway, tried flashing...it didnt even start flashing...it just did the bootloader and tried to unlock the ECM, and immediately killed it.

Perhaps a Full Flash with V7.5 with a stock OS/DSP5 upgrade on a bench harness ?

Then try the Cal Flash with V8 ?

I had three trucks last weekend, all with aftermarket Nav units and alarms.

I had to pull the ecms to install the switches so I bench flashed them and all went well.

Perhaps the truck bricked the ecm. To be honest I do 99% of my flashing on a bench harness and have had zero failures.

Sometimes I will remove the BLUE ecm connector and flash the ecm in the truck to avoid issues with the Can-Bus even on a stock truck.

Good Luck

I can't load these tunes via V7.5. CAnt even look at them.

I can see the advantage to this and.am surprised it took this.long to.get that much security, but this is kind of a headache.

I dent have a bench harness at all. How much does it take to build.one?. I don't do a ton of tuning for people but at the cost if ECms it might be worth it.

Haven't heard back from tuner yet.

Thanks.

yep i just had a horrible time with the latest update as well. finally had to wipe all traces of efi live off my computer and reload. didn't brick anything but kept getting an error msg which i can't remember what it said. LLY's are by far the pickiest trucks I've flashed. I'd had to remove radio fuses, disconnect HIDs, flashlight chargers, strobes, brake controllers, pretty much any aftermarket electronic item and some factory stuff.

My LBZ bricks itself with the old Diablosport I had and with EFI Live. I haven't tuned it in over 2 years because of this. I was thinking of loading a DSP5 cal in (as the switch is already installed), but am afraid of the multi-hour no start that often occurs.

I have a feeling something factory in my truck (even pulling the suggested fuses) causes an issue. I'm thinking a bench harness is the way to go. Anyone willing to sell an LBZ bench harness? Price?

Speartech can build you one..........one harness does LB7, LLY and Allison 5spd all in one harness, then I have LBZ/LMM by itself........and if EFI-Live ever decides to support 6spd Full Flash I will have that one built as well.

Expect to pay $125-$150 for a LB7/LS1 from Speartech, then each connector is in addition, then they assemble it for you.

I use a 12V-DC computer power supply for bench flashing for shipped/exchanged ecm's and a300W and when I flash them in the truck but direct I alligator clip to the DS Battery posts.

updating that bootblock is a real bitch for v8. i locked up my v2 last weekend for several hours. And i finally found a step by step on efi's forum.
