Help: Uncontrollable wheel hop

How do you get through the wheel hop!!
What are the tricks to get through it
I have always pulled very smooth but after I shortened my hitch I have had to abort the runs because of wheel hop. If I can get through it the new hitch should pull farther.

I pulled last Friday and I was #28 of 35 trucks in work stock class. 27 trucks never made to the 300' mark.
I was my turn and just after the hit it started hopping and had to lift 3 times before it stopped hopping and hooked. I lost a 3rd of the run before I could go full power and make and amazing run of 314' taking 1st place.

On my 2nd pull I could not stay into it. My front tires came a foot of the ground before I aborted.

First of all tell us how your truck is setup ie ... traction bars , tire pressures , torsion bar bolts loosened up .


Is there video of your pull ??

How do you drive? Are you trying to feather it out? That cases a lot of people to hop, just mash the damn thing.

Truck setup would be good to know as well.

Were other trucks hopping on that track.

Just "mashing" it might be the issue if it is hooking harder now that the hitch has been moved forward. There will be some point where the power level is not enough to keep the tires spinning all the time and that is when it starts to jump. Video would be best and the rest of the truck setup.

My set up

8500lb Work Stock class. (no hanging weights)

When I get to the track
1] jack front and remove torsion bar tension bolts
2 ] Install solid front bump stops. (they hold the front level, keep the front axles strait, and stop the tires from hitting the fenders.
3] Clamp front and back of the rear springs
4] I have the Timbrin extream duty over loads installed. They load on the stops with the add 1300lbs of weight in the back.
5] Lower rear pressure to 40psi
6] Lower front pressure to 25psi
7] When I hook I Hold the brake and mash the gasand when the boost gets to 6psi I let it go. It will go about 75' then go it to wheel hop.
8} I have the single long tube traction bars

I ran smooth before I moved the hitch. I think it is the right thing to do I just need to find how to make the truck work.

The tires are trying to hook at 75 feet, that's why it's boucing right there. Or the converter is locking at 75 feet trying to break the tires loose. What stall converter is in it? What gear are you starting in? Video on youtube would be the best.

How thick are your front stops ? It doesn't look like the front end is moving much at all .
I had the same problem last year . On a real good track It was fine but when I went to a track that wasn't worth a @#$%$ it hopped like a bunny rabbit but smoothed out at the end of the track . I made the front stops shorter and its been fine since .

Just watched the video. Lower the front, it's not coming off the stops. And either just roll into it or get on it harder. It was kind of spinning but not totally and making it jump.

Only issue I see could also be the front stops. If the front end does not lift off them I could see it being an issue.

To upload a video simply save it to your computer, then upload to youtube. No different than adding a picture to facebook or anything. You will need to setup a youtube/google account though. Then just go into advanced reply on here and insert only the characters that appear after the "=" in the URL for the video.

If it is on your phone you can upload directly from it to youtube if you have a google account which you will have automatically if you have an Android phone.

I am new to this do I have something crazy posted

I am pulling in high range 1st gear, no lock up, 1900 stall vigalante converter.

The motor has a low power area leaving the line for about the lenght of the truck then it is like througing a switch and the power comes on. I can hold it on the line forever with the gas on the floor and it wount give me full power untill the truck rolls.

I have the solid bump stops set so the truck is level should I drop them lower?

I have an A40 tcm with 3rd gear start tuned into it but could not get it to work. I can't back up with it because it jumps back into nutral when the truck moves.

Just lower the front bumpstops down some that should help a lot. Then get the tuning to work with the 3rd gear start in low range and run with it. Should be good to go then.

#2 is the hoping issues but 4 hi scares me. It has to raise off the bump stops. I have 1/4inch between my stops & sitting on them. I use urethane bushings as to not be solid. Works great
