I hve about 115k on the truck and i have gone through 3 or 4 sets of u-joints on the rear driveshaft. are others having this issue with the u-joints on crewcab sb trucks with the aluminum 1 pc driveshaft? right now, it sounds like a flock of chirping birds, while driving it:(

I just looked at autozone.com and they have greasable u joints for about $26. While that means they would have to come out and get greased every so often, they might last longer.

no, it means that they have a grease zerk to allow lubing without dissasembly:) i have quite a bit more power (600-650hp) and people say that the greasable ones arnt as strong as the non greasable type, since the u-joint trunions are hollow to allow grease to travel to the cap's needle bearings

Why do I keep doing this?

Ever think the driveshaft may be out of balance? You never know....

Ive got 153000 on my truck and it still has the OEM joints.

Sounds like a plan. Good luck! I will probably do the same thing soon. Eventually I want to get a better drive shaft though. Not too tough of one though. If anything in the powertrain fails, I'd rather it be the driveshaft than the trans or rear end.

why do I do this to myself???? I did a search on u-joint trying to find the brand that wasnt grease-able, the good ones. Then I read a thread like this, and I still have my stock ujoints.... is there a 'nervous' smilie?

Have you been replacing them while using the right tools when doing it? They say that the aluminum shafts get damaged if you don't us a press or u joint replacement tool. I haven't had any problems with mine and I run a lifted, big tire, high hp combination.

I think its seal taking a shit or damaged on install and the grease drying out, all the ones I've torn apart only had one dry damage side out of the 4.
