I've got a stock LLY turbo laying here in the garage with 190k on it. It has almost no play, seems to feel just like the one that's on the truck. But I was thinking of getting it made into a 4094.
Is it any cheaper to do this or just buy one? I been gonna tear it apart for shits and giggles but hate to ruin a good turbo for me to learn on.

i was looking into moding a stock charger for mine. i did some research and apparently the reason why the modified stock danville charger is more expensive than the 4094, is because it takes so much fab work on a stock charger. also, not sure that you can actually make a stock charger into a 4094. the 4094 is basically the same turbo but the frame is different. hopefully someone that knows for sure will chime in, but thats what i found in my research

Hmm, guess I'll at least have a good core or a spare charger for someone. I was gonna have 05LLY put a S475 over the stocker but I'm getting ready to buy a house in the next month or so and big turbo doesn't sound good with no money left, plus 4094's are cheaper and I think would help pull more air in a compound set up down the road.
But this stock turbo is killing my truck I can see it on the EGT gauge everyday I work it, the old motor is starting to flash in my head and it's worrying me with more down time.
