LBZ: Turning rail pressure up at idle?

Ok so for a long time I've been dealing with p0087 code, and on my cts it says I'm only desiring 4300psi at idle, so I turned my airdog up to where it's at 4900-5100 at idle.but as soon as I put it in drive it goes to 4400? Shouldn't my truck already be desiring 4900-5100 psi of rail as it's a lbz with a brand new cp3 in it(oem),new reg, a new injector and with a airdog?

Turning your airdog up shouldn't effect your rail pressure. You only want around 12 psi of output fuel pressure from your airdog to the cp3. Who does your tunning? might want to have it checked out and possible do bottle test even though you have ppe race valve

Dustin from diesel addiction, and Idaho rob, I've sent numerous logs to Dustin,he has tried alot of things to try and correct the problem. It's not in the tuning, plain and simple. I honestly think it's either the airdog not working or leaking through the return.which I will bottle test as soon as I fix a boost leak I have.I do know that it desired 4300 psi at idle and now that I turned the pump up a bit it's at around 4900-5100 which seems more normal.didnt get any lope, even when I cranked it all the way. The pump just made a little more noise, and rail went up towards 9000psi at idle and threw a high pressure code(0088).

Desired rail pressure is set by the tuning. If you've made logs, what kind of pulse width are you running when it throws the low rail pressure code?

last log I ran was with dustins acid tune, and the PW was 3070 when it threw the code.Again,I don't belive its a tuning issue, and its not a fprv popping because I have a plug in the rail.Have to fix the intake Y bridge first then I will log a few runs from dustins tunes and robs sense the new cp3 and airdog cranked up.

3070 PW? ive seen people with stock cp3's run 3200 pw and not drop rail enough to throw low rail pressure codes.

I run a hair over 3200pw on my lly and hold 20k rail on stock cp3 with dustins tune

Obviously the FPRV can't "open" with a race valve in, but it can seep past the seat and cause a pressure loss. You need to do a bottle test to see if it is leaking. It is easy to do and will eliminate one possible cause. 3070 uS shouldn't cause a low rail pressure issue. You should hook up a pressure gauge pre-CP3 to see if the Air Dog is holding pressure. If everything checks out, you may have an injector issue.

If your tune is commanding 4300 psi, and that is what your truck makes, your truck is working right. If your actual rail pressure is ABOVE the desired, there is a problem. Most likely, it is too much fuel pressure at the input of the CP3. This can be corrected by turning down the lift pump, or re-scaling the FPR current. If there is a reason you want the high pressure input, I'd recommend re-scaling the current. But you shouldn't need the lift pump that high to maintain rail pressure at WOT.

Once your truck is actually going to the rail pressure it commands, then you should work on making it command the amount you want it to. If you want 9,000 psi at idle, put it in the tune! Or have your tuner do it. Perhaps there is something strange with the LBZ computer, but I have no problem commanding (and getting) 11,000+ psi at idle. Makes the engine sound like a Cummins, though.

As for the pressure drop at WOT, there may be a problem there. I'd do what JoshH said.

I don't want 9000psi at idle, I just thought 4300 is sort of low at idle. Everyone I talk to says it's more so up around 5000 at idle. What I need is full Rail pressure, or at least close to full at WOT.

hope my cp3 on order fixes my p0087 problem, I throw it while only around 3,000 psi under desired... Do the bottle test, I don't think thats the problem though, I think its tuning... Just because mine throws the code when it really shouldn't. What O.S. are you running and have you tried another one?

That's what I was also going to ask. Is it ver easy to switch the OS? Why would that make a p0087 code aswell?

So a month later you still haven't done a bottle test. My race valve leaked like a mofo until I torqued it down very tight. Do the bottle test!!!!!

Some trucks like the race valve some don't, try taking it out and putting the stock plug in and see if that does the trick, or shim the stock plug..

You either have to run a script which I've never done. Idk how long that will take... or your can copy and paste all your tables. And just some OS have been known to cause funny things.. I have 6128. The best thing would be to have a table like tomac suggested but they don't have one for us lbzs like that.. maybe get a big group to try and ask efi live to look for that table, but doubt they would.
