this morning staterd the truck and went on my merry way. and i noticed a a whine that followed the rpms. at idle i cant hear it but as soon as the rpms go up it gets way more noticeable .the sound is coming out the exhaust so thats why i think its a turbo problem. sounds like my vanes are stuck open.

enlighten me folks as i need to fix this asap and if its time to upgrade then so be it:D

Believe me, seeing my truck down lights a fire under my ass to fix her.
I really want that precision turbo Trent is coming out with but with no set release date I can't just wait and with the 4202r I fear it might be way too laggy with my 37 and stock gearing. I left Trent a voicemail ... Hopefully he will have good news. As for the trans.... Hopefully I will be visiting mike l before the end of the year.

As for my turbo, shouldn't there be a CEL with the low boost or it not running properly?
I'm going to pull the cover peice and check for shaft play

Check your y bridge as well at the elbow. Mine has a whistle.
Also when my turbo started to go it had a whine then almost sounded like a owl or a ford.

I pm'd you back last night. I see now that your truck is lifted, the truck that this charger was on, was sitting on 35's and was very streetable. Just not for sure on towing, but as long as it wasnt a huge load i think it would be fine.

I like my HTT, and it makes a great base for twins or triples, the S366 is a nice turbo for towing and for letting the wife drive (at the lower tune levels ).

If you wanted to save a little money, you could consider the S464 (also a good base for twins, and will flow more than the S300's) or the larger S47X's, all of which are less expensive than the GT4202.

Any of these turbos with any amount of tuning...perhaps just enough tuning to lite the turbo will SMOKE the stock tranny (IMOP). My tune closest to stock is about 90 hp over and I think it would have limped my stock trans.

You are not just buying a turbo, you are buying a trans with it. :woott:

With good tuning, driving it around town wont be too bad. you will notice some mroe lag than stock but nothing huge. Towing with it is a different story as you will be under the RPM needed to get the turbo spooled up and stay in 5th gear down the highway. you will be downshifting it more than usual. I went round and round tryin to figure out a single that would work well with my truck and its current setup. Twins let me have my cake and eat it too but i needed to be able to have quick spool and nice towing manners (more so for someone to just get in and drive and not have to remember all the little step to make it run good, basically like it was stock). I wouldnt go any bigger than a s368 if you want to tow with a decent load

Ya that's terrible.:D
I'm pretty happy with my S464 that I got from Trent and it's a good turbo to twin with down the road. IMO better than the S366 as it has a bigger shaft in it. Downside is the install isn't quite as plug and play as the S3 chassis turbo's are but Trent has a pretty good kit put together now for it!

Oh and FYI I have almost 100 000 miles on my truck and haven't fully built my trans either and still pulling my 10 000lb holiday trailer with no problem so really it's all in how you tune it.
