Turbo Help

Okay so the last few weeks I have noticed excessive smoke and I have got some codes from the other day. They are P0540, P0045, P0405. I thought it was the vane position sensor so I swapped it out with one out of an LMM. Still didn't fix it and it feels like driving around with a large single on right now.

I talked to someone at the dealer ship and they said it could be 1 of 3 things. The vane position sensor, the actuator, or the turbo needs to be replaced. I am thinking the whole turbo just needs to be replaced but before I just go ahead and do that I would like to know if there is a way to pin-point the problem before I invest $300+ and 8-10 hrs in putting a new turbo on.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Derek

Log vane position. See what its doing. Then smack the exhaust housing with a big hammer. Sounds like the vanes are stuck open. I have a 05 lly Turbo that I will let go cheap if you need it Derek.

I thought the vanes were stuck open but wasn't sure how to go about fixing it. Ill give that a try later in the week (stupid finals at school are taking up all my time right now) and if that doesn't work ill get that turbo from you. Thanks
