I assume this common when running an aftermarket downpipe, any of you guys put something else there to help insulate the firewall? I'm fairly certain it won't hurt anything, but it kinda makes me feel better. Not sure what wiring/plastic crap there is to melt behind the firewall and such.

Maybe wire-tie a turbo blanket type deal over the top 8" of the downpipe?

How many miles using the downpipe that you noticed the damage? I've had my MBRP downpipe on for about 1 1/2 years and around 20K miles. No signs of damage yet....Not sure if it matters, but most of my driving is towing (Freeway miles)

Maybe 1000 total. Truck is mostly stock, just a PPE on level 3, the downpipe, 4" exhaust from the DP back with no cat. LBZ turbo mouthpiece, and the EGR blocked.

Do the turbo blankets do much other than keep radiant heat down?

Keeps heat where it should be and helps with spool up. Its also nice when your workin on a hot truck cause with one of levis blankets, it wont burn you should you accidently lean on it :D

It's not gonna help spool up when put on the down pipe

If I do the downpipe I will probably blanket the turbine as well. Is there a noticeable difference with in spooling with it? I've used turbo blankets before on a TT Viper, but only because it was a front mount and we desperately needed to keep underhood temps down, never did any empirical testing otherwise.

Yeah just get rid of the insulation. Mine caught fire a few years ago at IRP. Scared the shit out of me. Thank God for the fire team over there or my truck would of been toast.
