Maybe I was told wrong, but I remember hearing that guys used to use those on Dodges, behind the Cummins, and had trouble with them breaking. Maybe those cases were rarer than I was led to believe or maybe they redesigned it. The main reason I bring up the 4L80 is because it is so similar to the TH400. I would think most of the things you do to a 400 would work on a 4L80. Maybe Mike could give a better answer. I could be way wrong on this. Also the 4L80 would be a smaller lighter package than a TH400/Gear Vendors OD combo.

I think the Duramax needs at least a lock up converter and probably an o/d to keep the rpm's in check.

4L80 will need hardened shafts and planet. I built the 4L85 in Diesel 5's Grand national with the Duramax. We bought a 4l85 brand new from the dealer because the Dmax van model had the hard gear train already and built it from there. Works pretty good.

So a 4L85 seems to be a better option than the 400 with od? How does it go with the high tq?

It's doing well in the GN which is running a tts extreme/moonshine EFI tunes. The car weighs 4600 lb. There is only one way to find out how it does in a 2500 HD with power.

Would I use the ATS Converter that I got with my Stage 4 from PPE?

No
I had to have Terry at PI build a custom one. I did all the measurements and fit for it and Terry built it. I'm sure ATS can do the same as could Suncoast.

I was asked to post here by a member on the DP because i have an LLY motor bolted to a TH400. But i dont have a heck of a lot to say about it really, just wanted to see if id run into problems. Flexplate should be minor, just drill some holes, I have a ford NP205 bolted to it with chevy input and dodge 32 spline shafts and thats it. Its not running, not in a truck, and will probably never come to fruition.

Drilling some new holes in your flexplate could be disasterous. It will be out of ballance. Nobody said you could not do it; that's easy. Is it going to be worth a shit once it is done? I don't think so.

Not to still the thread here. But mike quick question. Will any other bellhousing wrap around the ally. Other then a ally bellhousing and still match the bolt pattern on the motor. I need a new bellhousing and was wondering

Lots of bellhousings will bolt to the motor, but not too many will bolt to the Ally.
