Tuning?

I'm new and won't have a diesel till March. In reading through the forums on here I keep coming across the term "tuning". What is the "tuning" of which you speak, what does it do, is it hard to do and is it legal? Seems that you are change the settings the come from the factory?

You either use a handheld "box" tuner such as Bullydog, PPE, Predator, etc or use custom EFILive tuning (from a reputable tuner) to change the stock tuning in your truck. You can increase HP/TQ, optimize the stock tuning, increase mileage, change certain parameters for special circumstances, etc....

I would HIGHLY recommend you start using the search function at the top of the main forum page to find out explanations for your questions. Read, read, read....

We are altering the factory electronic tune, it's not illegal unless you use the tune to defeat factory emissions equipment. With your 16 its not as easy as the older trucks, GM threw up a road block so to say. Unless you have a problem with the emmisions system not functioning properly bc of how you use it I'd leave it stock...
