Tuning for new injectors??

I have been reading on the net again. (Where is the duck and cover smilie?)

According to what I have been reading .... don't remember where now... there is something known as injector dead times? Is there any advantage to measuring that and then being able to tune it into the ECM?:cool2:

So far I know the EDC-16 (Bosch ECU) doesn't have the "dead time" correction included. You are right when the injector gets the pwm signal it takes approx 500 - 600 micro-second by 300 bar (4410 PSI) to open the injectors and 250 - 300 micro-second by 1600 bar (23520 PSI).
I have already the data's of the LLY injector because on my stand-alone ecu we do the correction of injection opening and have the real timing on the engine ...

I have seen something about rate shaping injectors, what is to be gained by that?

so we are needing even more timing to account for this dead time from when the ECM tells the injector to fire until it actually opens. Is that the time until it starts to open or is that the time untli it's fully open? I imagine there isn't much difference in that number, at least not worthy of discussing or accounting for.

It's the time until opens. Now see pic below, when we run on idle speed, the injector never opens complete ...

It's about 300 - 500 ms by 300 bar on Bosch Gen II injectors ... higher pressure, faster it's opening
