So I stopped for fuel today because I was at an 1/8th of a tank (low fuel light was NOT on). After getting fuel, the truck would start without any problems or hesitation but would then shut off after about 1 second of running normally. It didn't chug or sputter before it died either, it just shut right off. I also noticed that the digital message center showed AVG ECON: --.- and everything else (range, oil life, etc) was also reading just dashes (hyphens) and no numbers. Along with the dashes was a low fuel indicator light (even after fueling up the truck) and what appeared to be a dead fuel gauge pegged at empty.

Weird.

So I immediately popped the hood and primed the filter which got hard with two or so pumps and cracked the bleeder screw. No air really came out but just to make sure, I bled out quite a bit of fuel. The gas station is probably pissed about the puddle of diesel I left. Oops. That didn't seem to make any difference. My truck is still pissed at me.

So does anyone have any idea as to what could be causing this?? I have no idea where to start with this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cody

I've seen my DIC display just dashes once when I failed a calibration flash to my ECU. Truck wouldn't even turn over for me in that condition, though.

First thing I'd do it I was you is check EVERY fuse. These trucks have fuses going to completely unrelated stuff from their name. While you're at it, look for pinched wires or a disconnected harness somewhere. Also, try to pull codes with a scan tool. It should be able to communicate with the ECU just fine.

Hmm. Ok, I am doing my research while I am at work since I will be here for the next 58 hours. I will definitely check all of the fuses when I get back to my truck and search the harness for any rub through spots. Thanks for the info!
