Ive got a buddies truck we are trying to figure out it will only act uo when hes towing something if your goin down hwy and stay steady in the throttle it will lose a lil power and smoke truck is all stock no programer only mod is straight piped on day we was stoped at the red light and took off normally and co in the intersection and it fell on its face and smoked like a built truck pulling i thought it might be the egr what else could it be?

If it's smoking pretty badly for a stock truck the EGR sticking open could be a possibility. What year truck?

take the truck to an autozone, or other large chain parts store. They will read the DTC's and you can report back with those.

If it fell on its face but was still smoking horribly I would guess an EGR sticking open. The '06's had an updated ECM calibration and cleaning procedure to help prevent the EGR from sticking. Sometimes it fixes it, sometimes it needs an EGR valve.
Yes but you would need to either tune the ECM or I believe get a finger stick that tricks the ECM.
