Looking for advice on a travel trailer or camper. Never purchased one before and as the time to move to 29 palms nears im wanting to find one so we will have stuff to do out there rather than smoke/cook crank and drink ourselves to death. Want something decently priced (under 10k) with decent amenities. Thanks guys

What is your point?:D
On a serious note; when you buy your toy I would love to come out and spend a night with you guys.:thumb: ( if I'm invited of course ) I haven't been camping for a long time. Might even talk Jason into coming along.

Lock your self and you family in the bathroom for 2 days...that's a camper...
Now lock your self and you family in the kitchen for 2 days...that's a trailer...

After that answer this question...Did you make it 2 days?

I like my trailer. We actually made it 2 weeks without killing each other.

I recommend a fifth wheel, much more control over it. Check eBay. If you don't mind repairs here and there you could get a repo or something like that to save some dough. My buddy has an RV dealer. But I doubt you wanna drive to IN lol

Just because it can dosn't mean it dose or ever will!:D

Get a travel trailer/fith wheel with a slide out. Adds so much room it's well worth the extra money.

:spit: see I aint the only one that knows you;) You to scared of HP:D you got a taste from your lilly AND RAN:coolspot:

P.S. how do you know it doesnt run:confused: :thumb:
and your stout bottom end is going to be the least of your worries ;)

I have a bumper hitch trailer it's nice because you can put bikes quads generator in the box. However I would like a camper so I can pull Abby and stay in the camper

Depends on what you want to do

5th wheels pull better but you loose the bed of your truck

I'm a long time RV'er and have had them all, campers, pull trailers, 5th wheels, motorhomes both class A, B and C.

You have a good truck for a camper, (duramax's are not). But they are expensive as hell for what you get and are really tied down unless you unload and that is a bit of a pain.

5th Wheels are easy towers, cut corners much worse than a pull trailer and IMO better for longer stays such as wintering out somewhere etc.

I prefer pull travel trailers, good used ones. Can get a really nice one for 10K or a bit under. Are easier to back than a 5th wheel (until you get use to backing one) follow well and don't cut much off when you turn a corner. If you look around you'll find that they don't get much cheaper than 5 or 6K no matter the age. You can get a 25-27' one that will be easy to tow, can park in most any state or Forest Service camp ground, easy to set up. Slide outs are a must. Makes a ton of difference. Take a good look the running gear, (wheels and axles) and how the cabinets are made, some are so damn cheap that they will fall apart on any kind of rougher road. Especially look at how easy it is to work on, where is the water pump, are the dump valves easy to get to, how much fresh water does it hold, how much black and gray water.

I don't know your family situation, but I saw one when I was working down in San Diego that was made by Coleman that was cool as hell. Had a separate front bedroom and in the back was a bunk room with three great bunk beds. Out side on the same wall as where the bunk room is was a fold down wall with another complete kitchen including sink, another refrigerator and counter top. Very handy if you had a family with kids.

Good luck

Wow...thanks for the advice Ken. At the moment its me, the Mrs. and a dog. So not a lot of us but I plan on getting one slightly larger than we need so as the family grows we will have room.

My $.02;

Every set up is a compromise with something. I prefer a camper because I spend all my time outside except sleeping. The hitch is open for towing all the reasons I go away in the first place; quads, snowmobiles, horses or a boat.

Have a look at an Arctic Fox 9.9 with a slide :thumb: you've got the truck for one of those.

But going to town for beer and ice is a pain unless you can ride or boat there.
