Is there a tool kit that i can buy to have all the tools i need to do a rebuild on the ally 5 speed? I have looked on the kent- moore site but just want to make sure that i have everything i need.

What is needed besides your everyday tools?

Snap ring pliers, engine stand with pto adapter, plate to hold main shaft in place, tq wrenches ( lb and in ), and spring cage adapters for the front rotating assembly on the 5 speeds.

Why the tool for the main shaft? Is that only if you want to flip the trans over, with the bell ousing off?

to keep the main shaft aligned yes. you should take the whole trans apart and clean it the mainshaft jig can be made very easily. youll need long ass snap ring pliers, a press works fine to take the c1/c2 housing apart, and a 90* flatheaded screw driver (bend one if you must) makes taking the big snap rings out way easy.

I used no special tools, and I actually had a few pairs of snap ring pliers but found that a strait head screwdriver worked best.
You will need a good selection of metric sockets and or wrenches though and I used 3-5 different screwdrivers varying in size.

to get the converter bolts out I used about 5 feet of 1/2in extensions and 3 swivels. Somehow I got them back in with a wrench though.

You can align it without a tool, all you need is depth mics to make sure its fully seated..

FWIW I didn't use a tool, I just didnt flip the trans over with the bell housing off.

you can do it that way you can even have someone hold the main shaft. its just alot more trustworthy to have a jig IMO
