I reset tap cells with EFI or put in fast learn with tech 2 then then drive it around till it seems to shift fine through various throttle position then drop the hammer.

I used the Edge Insight and did the transmission relearn on it , but mainly I was wondering if there was a breakin procedure for the clutches .

I did the same as you . I couldn't handle not knowing what my new mods were going to do for me . My transmission felt good even on my kill tune though .

What can a edge insight do?

I have done both. Fast learn with tech2 and reset taps with efi. I just drove the truck around nicely when reset taps and no problem. Dont let your curiousity kill your fresh transmission!

My edge insight has a transmission relearn feature . It sets a couple codes for you to clear and then tells you to drive it through x amount of shifts up and down .

I suppose it works alright the truck drove well after it was done and felt like it held the power a lot better than the stock trans .

x2 with what everyone else said.

First, I reset TAPS and do a fast learn with the Tech 2. (not EFILive...because EFILive doesnt seem to always do it correctly 100% of the time)

Then do a bunch of random park-reverse-neutral-drive-neutral-drive-reverse-neutral-reverse-drive-reverse-neutral shifts (all while stopped, foot on brake) to let the TCM learn the garage adapts properly. This is important because you dont want the customer coming back complaining that the thing clunks when he puts it in reverse to back out of his parking space.

Then I drive it around in both normal and tow/haul increasing the throttle position each time...then after about 15 miles of stops and starts, and ive worked my way up to ~80% throttle, I come down to a stop on a flat straight road, and hammer it.

So basically, once its learned enough to where its not shifting funky and the TCM feels like its settled in, theres your break in period. :)

Reset the taps, tell you wife/Gf to go for a ride, when she quits bitchin about the rough shifts, hammer the throttle and be prepared for a high pitch scream and the possible death grip on your arm from sudden acceleration. Once complete, your trans is broke in and your arm will be bruised. :D

Nothing works like Tech 2 and Allison DOC. Allison DOC will set tap's for the TCC where the tech 2 won't.

Mike Have you tried clearing taps and setting to fast learn with a Snap On scanner like a Solus, Modis or Verus? I have used both a tech 2 and snap on and really couldn't tell a difference. Both follow identical procedures as far as selecting gears and holding with the brakes for a couple minutes in certain ranges.

How do I clear taps with my v2? I don't even know what taps is.

I have a used suncoast gmax 6 and 1058 being installed today.

I really never use my v2, once I downloaded the dsp5 tune the only time i have ever used it was to clear limp mode. I work at a gm dealer so I can have them do a reset with the tech 2.

My impression years ago was to put the hammer down let her rip. Well I went through a couple transmissions that way.

Now what I did on this one (perhaps over kill ) is I drove around for a couple days stock and every couple days raised up the power till I got to the highest tune I had. That was in regular mode and tow Haul for the two days.

What I looked to accomplish was for everything to one ,get a good soak, two let it learn.

Worked so far, as mine is still working flawless, a ATS transmission mind you. :D

But I yield to the experts just wanted to give you a option. Both the above clutch
soak,and learn are important IMO.
