Ok experts, after seeing the thread earlier about 500+hp on just a tg jr and EFI, I'm curoius. Is the TG jr really more effective that we're lead on to be? Seems most people say it'll get you an extra 20-30rwhp or somewere in that neighborhood, but if it will get an otherwise stock tranny to hold 500+hp even if it was just one run, is it really a diamond in the rough?

I'm curious to see who's torn down a 6 speed with tg jr, and what kinda power it had put through it, how it held up, were the clutches in bad shape etc. Was the converter still in respectable shape? I've heard that after the jr is installed the converter becomes the weak link.

So I'm also curious as to what a jr+converter combo would do for a 6 speed. As in what kinda #'s people have laid with said combo, and durability of it, etc etc etc. Since I'm planning on owning a LBZ soon, I'm gathering all the info I can.

Thanks for yer thoughts!!

Had about 500hp for 5000 miles and it smoked the clutches and killed the converter clutch. about 20 passes

Aren't those the ones that need the most help? I don't know a ton about transmissions, so I'm just looking for info and testimonials and what not lol.

I have a lot of testimonials and have seen where the jr failed under big power. There is no substitute for more pressure.

So what I got out of that thread was that it slipped the clutches at 500+hp with the trans in gear converter locked? But it may limp at lesser power levels due to the amount of torque?

Looks like about 450ish rwhp is as much as a guy would want to run through a 6spd with just the TG jr? Or at least to keep it reliable for a while. Interesting stuff.

my transgo jr went in at 2500mi, and when I pulled the trans to build it at 14000, the C3's were well on there way, the C4's had some signs of slippage but not as much as the C3's. I had been running 475 hp.

I ran around for about 13K with the stock converter, trans go, and PPE on 350. Mike said the clutches were on there way out when he did the trans. Im sure the converter was in the same shape. It never limped though.

Exactly!

Unfortunately this seems to be forgotten in "some" threads.....

That sounds about right. This is what I have been running at for about 40 000 miles and no issues with the trans until I started upping it on a more regular basis. Now it doesn't like any power above ~450hp and is starting to give me grief.

I say the jr is a good investment for anyone-even those with a mild power adder or even stock just because it shifts so much nicer.
