I was in DE over the weekend and it was pouring down rain. Drove my truck through a big patch of standing water(spray over the hood). Parked the truck, got back in and while driving back I noticed the dic said "service 4wd". Shut the truck down, restarted no message. Checked transfer case fluid it is fine. Started truck twice since and drove the 220 mi home and no message.
Could water have caused it? Shorted something out. Is there anything else to check? Just looking for opinions/experiences.
P.S. Sorry if this in the wrong place, Mike. Mods feel free to move it if so.

I would not worry about it at all.

Did you have the truck in 4x4 at any time during the drive? I've got this message after driving in 4x4, putting it in park and then setting it to 2wd. Then when I went to leave the driveway the next morning I get the message. Seems the actuator or fork had enough bind on them to not fully disengage.

Sounds like Turbo Buick 6 hit it on the head then. Check the connectors and make sure that they are still fully seated. Other than that no worries unless it happens again.

Hasn't happened since (knock on wood) so I haven't been too worried. I will crawl underneath it this weekend.
I think the water may have messed up my nsbu switch, the indicator no longer lights up at all. Before it was dim but at night you could barely see it, now nothing. So I will check that out too because I have to put axle seals in, so it will be in the shop.
