I dont know if I should put this here or in with Mike's sheep but here it goes. Today my old mans '03 started leaking tranny fluid out the front of the trans. This truck is/was/always was stock. I'm sure this flippin freezing weather is to blame. Its got 60K miles on it and 2 months left of the 5 year/100K warranty. The stealer says that the trans. seal is only covered under the 3 year 36K warranty not the 5/100K. I thought that anything tranny related is power/drivetrain?
What are your guys' thoughts?

No diff than a rear seal on the engine to me Jason, and they replace those under warranty..I'd get ahold of a GM rep and raise hell, they'll usually give in.

I just called my Serv manager friend and he said that's BS..

Thanks man, thats what I thought but you know how the old "you're the only one this has happened to" saying goes. Not that that is what they said, but I think you catch my drift. Its amazing what comes out when you get groups of the same people together. I'll let you guys know how he turns out.

The transmission is not covered in the 5 yr/100,000 mile warranty only the engine is. The drivetrain is only covered in the 3 yr/36,000 mile unless he bought the extended warranty. Sorry.

Stealer

My local stealer cant touch any part that has to do with a allison. They can only swap full trannies. They have to take it to a certified allison shop to have any work done to them. I assume there all like this?

I dont know? Dad got quoted 6 hours labor to fix it plus the seal (assuming thats what it is). They say it could be convertor bolts coming loose also? I havnt heard that happening with a stock truck. So, its going to be no more than $500 to fix they say.

Well now the old man claims that GM told him that there is now a TSB on the allisons and that GM is replacing some valves and changing some pressures. I told him it sounds just like a transgo Jr to me but he said that is not it. And the dealership is going to do it? And it might even be warrantied. I tried searching on the place but cant find TSB's anywhere. Has anyone else heard this?

IDK yet. I have to take it there sometime this week. It'll probablly be tomorrow, I have a bull that seems to have hurt his junk and I have to get him to a vet today but all our portable panels and alleyways are frozen down at another place. Its gonna take all day to get that crap chipped outta the ground! AND ITS COLD AND WINDY AS HELL!!!
And, the way this dealership works I probablly wont hear back from them until next week once it gets there.

The bull gets sold no matter what. When the breeding operation depends on his and 3 other's "junk" I dont want to risk him being no good and having a bunch of non-pregnant cows!

Steak anyone?

I cant believe I forgot to post this until now. When I started the old mans truck to take it to the dealer it made the same rattle as my truck did a year ago or so! It wasnt nearly as bad, but you know the sound when you hear it. It has to be clutch rattle from what I can gather? He was really low on oil, I put 2 qts in right away, drove 5 miles and put another qt in to make sure it would make it. It only rattled for about 5-10 seconds, not until it was warm like mine did, but it was the same rattle.
What has me wondering is if maybe my pump needs looked at/worked on? If his did this when it was that low on oil, maybe it is a pump/pressure related problem instead of clutches. Or, would that cause clutch rattle? My tranny got pretty hot a couple of rebuilds ago and I wonder if I have some lingering effects?
I know a lot of you have see this already, but its the only way I can describe it...
