trans swap from different years

co worker has a 03 calli emmissions lb7 4x4 stock truck he ran way to long on bad injectors so burned up the motor he says he wants $350 for the trans it was in great working order when pulled it just has 240k on it

so my plan is to buy the trans and build it myself with most likely a ppe kit and convert it to 2wd and slap in my 01 lb7 non cali regular cab my questions is how hard is it to make a trans 2wd and would I be able to swap it over being a cali truck or is it not worth the time and money any help is appericated I really want to try my hand at building my own trans

You will have to swap complete extension housing with complete 2wd tail housing. Meaning output shaft and all.

ok so would I have to have bolth trans sitting side by side to swap all the stuff over? sounds like more work than its worth what about the price for the trans should I pick it up and save it for a rainy day ?

yeah would love to but I cant swing a trip to Cali and I want to build my own trans i'm a mechanic by trade so it doesn't scare me to dive into one so that why I was thinking of picking up this other trans to start on

If parts from a 6 speed will work let me know, I bought locked up 2006 6 speed awhile back and just dismantled last week. Check prices on parts and PM me. Anyone know what 6 main case, pump are worth...
