When i pulled my truck in the garage for the winter a couple months ago i noticed that when i took it out of Drive and went to park it made a ratchetting noise for a second or two? So i went back and forth between D and P and D and R and it ratchets for a second every time. Any ideas Mike?

Joe that is exactly what it sounds like. When 4wd is switching in between ranges, except it is making this noise in 2wd? Mike you think i should tear the tcase apart and start looking for a worn fork? Anything else in there that would be worth replacing while im in there?

throw a pump rub kit in it. otherwise just replace what you find worn

That "could" be the park pawl you are hearing. In 4 low even with your foot on the brake going from drive to park (or even reverse to park), the truck can pull through the brakes or move ever so slightly causing the pawl to ratchet until it can catch. It will do it in hi range too, but takes a higher vehicle speed (most never experience it in hi range unless they force it into park while the vehicle is still rolling). I don't recommend trying it as I'm sure it's not good for the pawl or the component (I'm assuming it's some sort of ring gear) that the pawl engages. I notice it in the pits when I truck pulling (still in low range) especially on a slope. I think the orginal poster's sound is slightly different from that.
