this is not a duramax ? but it is a chevrolet. so the in- laws have a 2001 monte carlo they say its shifting funny and surging. he put his code reader on it and it said tcc stuck in unlock or something like that. and i drove it a few weeks ago and tried using the cruise and it just surges, but i also noticed that the speedometer is starting to go a little crazy, fluctuating when keeping the peddle steady. so my question is would the speedometer problem have something to do with the trans acting up or no? i've heard that it can but i need an honest opinion. thanks

Need the code # not your explanation of it. Chances are it is high mileage and the chain speed sensor is not reading correctly because of clutch damage.

The P0741 indicates that you either have a bad TCC solenoid or a bad converter clutch, or a bad speed sensor. If it's the speed sensor you will lose 4th gear as well as no TCC. When that code sets, TCC is prohibited and line pressure elevates which will give you some harder shifts. You need to hook up a professional scanner and bring up a data stream and start looking at TCC apply and slip. Also watch the speed sensor for drop outs. Could also be a worn isolater valve bore in the valve body.
