I took my truck to my trans guy today, he checked it with his Tech 2, says that its going to need to come out, he predicts its going to need C3 for sure and good chance C4 too. Hopefully getting it all done by mid June.

I have had alot of issues with power levels being up and down, trying different tuning the adaptives must have been all over the place? Beating on it while it was trying to learn.

if you are running an 01 tcm, it doesnt do much learning....so that reason is out. and as far as the C3 oiler, a 500hp truck isn't going to notice a difference with it, and a higher hp truck might see a gain but not for long because C3 takes a beating anyways and will continually need to be refreshed. JMHO. your trans is a couple years old..it's just wear and tear if you drive it like you stole it sometimes.

to add:

when I took apart my trans before the challenge, my stupid driving toasted c1 and c2 really well, but c3 and c4 were mint. just a little color transfer from the steels, thats it. it wasn't run that long at 700+ hp, but it was enough to destroy c1 and c2 while doing rolling burnouts and WOT tuning runs in 2wd. call Ben or George before you commit to having your guy tear into it.

Your probably right about me driving like I stole it, its an 01 TCM, it takes forever to learn after a reflash, even after I got it back new it took a while to learn, I believe Mike L told me the 01's take a little longer to readapt? I did alot of rolling burnouts last summer, and the summer before the tires I ran were 265's and they went up in smoke at 35-40 like John Force burnout, not too smart but looked cool as hell. I am confident in the guy I have doing it, if George wasn't so far away I'd have went with him, and Ben is a joke, can't return a call let alone fix anything.

But I will make sure I stop blowing holeshots everywhere I go. I need it to last longer than 3 years.

01 TCMs dont have nearly as many adapt cells as newer ones. even 02's got a little smarter. I have never cleared adapt cells on mine, I just took it easy for a few miles and viola, it was shifting like butter. then, last week, I literally went from 750 hp to 900+ hp overnight and never cleared adapt cells, and I had re-spec'd c1 and c2, new fluid, new filter etc. the trans never skipped a beat.

Hmmm? Dunno? Mine might have an 02 TCM? But I don't remember, but I know it took a few days to "shift better" the first time I got it back??? I always have the weirdest shit happen to me anyway??

Has anyone had issues with a trans that was "built" after 3-3.5 yrs and 40-50k miles, I agree with Tim probably a little too many burnouts and rolling burnouts. And different fluid I should consider? I was running regular ATF.

Not that it really counts because it was ATS parts but mine only lasted around 10 months and the c2's were completely smoked and the c3's were pretty bad to.

I had issues with C2's in the past too, had to replace a bunch of hard parts the last time, the C2 hub was screwed up caused the clutches to hang up. We replaced C1's, C2's, C4's and C5's last time the C3 clutches still looked new so these C3's have about 80-100k on them. I believe we did the first build in 09? So I guess they caught a beating for a while. The guy who did it last is known to run on the tight side of the clearances, not sure if that helps or hurts things? It was an awesome trans for 3 years, never skipped a beat under power, I did have this queer thing when I would take off slow then stop and try to take off again almost felt like it needed to down shift one more time, if I stopped completely again it would be fine? Other than that it was awesome every shift felt positive never slid in or out of any gear always made the shift awesome.

I'm still confused about why you think the c3's are toast, other than the trans guy saying so. Is it shifting weird? Were the taps really agressive or what? I'm not sure if running on the bottom side of the clearance specs is a bad thing, but don't run tighter than the spec thats for sure... I'm ASSuming that a little more clearance will let the clutches drag less when they aren't engaged.

IMO it is kinda like valve lash, set it to the spec and IF anything else a little looser; .005" too little will wreek more havoc than .005" too much.

He looked with the Tech 2 the adaptive values are way high and it does shift strange kinda second guesses the 3-4 shift, chatters it reverse, clunks going from reverse to drive sometimes, just overall feels strange, sometimes it shifts hard sometimes it shifts like a 700R4 slides into gear instead of a positive shift. If I reset TAPS or reflash it, it is ok for a little bit then it eventually starts going to shit, if I reflash it or reset TAPS or reflash the TCM even with the the same stock file it is ok for a bit as well? IMO the trans guy knows there was an issue with C3 clutch pack to begin with and realizes it became an issue. He is going to fix it for me, and its not going to cost me alot so I am ok with it, if you drove it you'd instantly know there was an issue with my trans.

Should I have my TCM reflashed to an 02 OS? Is it any better for it? I did run a few different TCM tunes in the past as well that may have helped it wear out prematurely as well?
