Burn Down and I put a trans out of an LB7 into his LLY. We changed the valve body, harness, and NSBU switch. Fired the truck up last night and it says shift range inhibited and blinks under the gear that is selected. At first when you put it in "D" it goes into gear and about 3 seconds later it says "shift range inhibited." We are going to swap the NSBU tonight to see if that is it but was wondering if there were any other ideas. The NSBU on it now didn't have any hickups before and it does not throw any codes currently.

I changed the NSBU switch and still no luck. Goes into gear for 3-5 seconds and then starts blinking with "range shift inhibited." Then it doesn't have any more forward motion.

Ive herd that the ignition switch is tied into that whole system and can cause that problem and its not to expensive and I have seen a few write ups on how to change it and doesnt look to hard..
But im not 100% sure its the same on the LLY.

Aren't these two different valve bodies?? Think I have heard of this problem before and it has something to do with lb7 trans (early allison ) having one extra solenoid that lly trans ( later version) does not . Or visa versa.

what codes are you getting Reece ?

No codes. Just "range shift inhibited" At first it had Solonoid "E" stuck on but that hasn't come back.
Make sure your speed sensors are plugged in and working.
They are plugged in we double checked that.

Yes two different valve bodies. LLY has "G" solonoid LB7 does not. We switched in the LLY valve body along with the harness.

I have read the same & may just try it... Only thing is it never missed a beat until we put this trans. in, makes me think it is something related to the trans. swap.

Ok here goes.... I filled the trans. with the truck on jack stands. Shifted it through the gears & reset the oil level. Put the truck on the ground and tried to move it, bam shift range inhibited. We jacked with the NSBU & even swapped it with a known good switch. Checked the electrical connectors, cleaned & dried them. WTF!

Last night I thought to myself you know you never rechecked the fluid after you got the truck on the ground, DOH! Pulled the stick and no fluid FAWK! Filled with fluid and wow I got gears   .

So, don't work 12-14 hour days 6-7 in a row then head home and start working on the truck with about 4-5 hours of sleep for a month straight. You tend to over look the simpilest crap when your sleep deprived :spit:

Oh and thanks Reece for dragging the tech2 & both V2's to the lake, thank god for the superchip  :D
