Honestly...I run basic cheap Advance Auto Dex III and it works perfectly. I have about 165k on my trans since I built it, zero problems and has not been taken out of the truck since I built it 6 years ago (its on its third converter though, after two junk 1057's loosened up on me, it finally has an ML in it), and the trans has been run hot and abused many times.

I really cant tell any difference when I tear down a trans that has run TranSynd vs. a trans that has run "crappy" generic Dex III.

TranSynd is good for super cold temps, going longer between fluid changes, and making you feel better but thats about it IMO. Dont get me wrong, its a great fluid obviously and im not trying to sell it short, but its not really going to make your built trans any "better" [for racing/huge power] in my own opinion, if thats what you are looking for...Im sure Ill have a bunch of people disagreeing with me though.

i agree! my puller only gets the cheapest atf i can find. much cheaper if i have to rebuild it. 2 years so far no problem other than completely and utterly destorying a pi converter

If it's a built trans I would skip the TRANSYND regardless. I ran it in mine, and even at low power levels I didn't get the nice clean crisp shifts with TRANSYND that I now get with the CASTROL DEX/MERC fluid. The biggest thing I liked about TRANSYND though was it ran a consistent 30 degrees cooler with my stock cooler than I do now with a MUCH larger B&M unit(the stock one would hit 200 in no time with the DEX fluid whereas it never crossed 200 with TRANSYND). I know Mike likes the CITGO QUATRASYN fluid, but it is TOUGH to find.

I have run cheapo Napa brand DexIII since I built my trans which was 90k ago. Never had an issue.

Amsoil worked well for me, as did Transynd. Seemed to shift equally well on both fluids however the Transynd has been used this winter so I haven't been able to personally see the lower temp claims (I don't doubt they are true)
