I'm trying to tread carefully, because this is a non-sponsor made cooler that I'm evaluating tomorrow, but I have a few questions and I've picked Mike's brain a few times over the past year.

I live near the HQ of a company that is making a new trans cooler for our trucks. I loaned them my truck one day for measuring/fitting/pictures, and in exchange they are giving me a cooler tomorrow. I have no relationship with them at all and I'm not promoting nor selling their goods.

I also want to say that If it was me actually buying a cooler, I'd go with Mike - hands down. This is free though, LOL. Of course I don't want to hurt my truck for a freebie!

Their unit has a working pressure of 150psi and burst of 600psi. I am not sure on the fitting sizes, but I think all is good as long as they are -8 or -10, correct? Any other things to take notice of before let it go on my truck? It will be much wider and sit much higher than stock; I know that has plusses and minuses of its own. I've told them that in cold weather she'll see upwards of 200psi, and that didn't bother the engineer.

Thoughts?

I smudged their logo; hence the black mark in the middle. This is my truck from my first visit.

chinese made or american made? where are the parts sourced from? are they welding them in house with end tanks on them? are they a stacked plate style or core radiator style?

EDIT: pic answers alot of my questions other than the bolded.

I did just find something that worries me. This is a shot of how they accept the factory line and convert it to a hose to feed the cooler. I'll need to ask the ID of that barb/hose and how are they going to not leak! Hose clamps, lol?! Maybe I need a fitting to go directly in with no hose. Hmm.

The cooler looks like a copy of the True Cool. They can be bought for 100.00 or so on Ebay.
Never really worked that well. Inlet is probably too small and hose clamps will be your downfall. They WILL blow off.

I was following the blog for these on their web sight. When they showed the hose barb adapters is when they lost me. Also $425 is a little steep for it having hose clamps. For that price they could at least have used AN fittings.

I was trying not to name drop a non-vendor, Chris.

I have a bunch of shit going on at work and really can't spare the time to get down there anyway, so I'm going to just have them mail it up to me. I'll examine more closely then, and see if its reasonable to remove the fittings in favor of something better. Or just sell it and get Mike's, LOL.

If it's better to delete this, rather than discuss a non-vendor offered product in the forum, I'm certainly in agreeance if that matters any, LOL.

Thanks for the gospel Mike!

Sorry, edited post. Didn't think it was a big deal since we discuss their products all the time.

No no, please continue with this. Good or bad, im sure others here would like to know. once you get pics and share it, i dont see it being an issue on sharing who the seller is. I think at this point, we all kinda have an idea of the quality of the part.

Ok, will do. I didn’t want anyone getting the wrong idea, or thinking I’m giving them free press.

If you go to their website, there’s now info and pricing. I didn’t know that.

OK. The hoses are 5/8” and the fitting to the factory hose is too. No problem there. But the nipples for the rad and for the adapter neck the system down.

The in/out of the rad are .465” ID. The ID of the 90 fitting is .438”.

These numbers are from the first set was of vernier calipers I grabbed; cheap Hazard Freight. So it’s a joke for me to put the third digit, but it’s close enough for our purpose :)

Pics coming

Hose clamps are .313” wide. Not doubled at each end. Nipples do have a small ring at each end of the rad, and almost a barb at the 90 fitting.

I was thinking one could cut the nipples at the cooler and braze a larger fitting, but that .465” inlet is the diameter of the pipe are well, so there’s no gain.

Just noticed that the 5/8” rad hose slips on all fittings and back off again with no effort. It’s certainly not like a Parker hose/fitting for example.
