Trans Confusion

Last Wednesday I started to notice my truck was flaring on the 1-2 shift. It wasn't terrible but I did notice it had a different feel to it. I only drove the truck to hockey (10 miles each way) and then to work Thursday morning(3 miles) all easy driving and never more than 40-50% throttle if I had to guess. Thursday afternoon I jumped in the truck and headed out from work. Within half a mile I noticed the trans was flaring and then clunking every shift and then it limped into 3rd gear. I pulled over, checked the fluid(proper level and didn't smell burnt) and then cleared the P0700 code I had. Pulled out of the parking lot and the same thing happened. Shifted terrible 1st through third and then never found fourth gear. Causing it to limp into 3rd. While in third I can roll into the throttle and feel no slip and I can still manually lock the converter. I am sort of at a loss because it seems like it failed very quickly and I hadn't been abusing it. I am going to try and change the spin on filter tonight and see if it helps. Any insight on what this might be?? I'm really hoping I didn't fry the tranny.

Who built it and how long ago?
Trans was built by Buddy @ Maximum Performance in RI. Original plans for the truck weren't to exceed 600hp so the trans was built accordingly. Has about 30k miles on it and probably 50-75 passes down the strip. Performed flawlessly until last week.

It's to bad you didn't read the code before clearing it.
I did. It was P0700. It didn't throw a more specific code. Just feels a lot different from when the stock trans failed. This gave no notice and doesn't only slip under heavy load. it is just falling all over itself....

That codes just says there are codes in the TCM.
I don't have a tech 2 or anything. Just use my insight to read codes. Is it possible the codes are still there? Or would they have cleared with the ECm code? If so how do I read the tcm codes. This is all new to me.

I need to get my hands on a good scanner. I am still holding out on buying a v2 lol. I think I will change the spin on filter tomorrow and put a few miles on it. See if I can get the codes back or if it changes the way it shifts.

Pull your sump filter and peel it open. Look inside for clutch material. You may have a delaminated C3/C4 clutch pack. Did your trans temp go up at all? That will be an indicater of a plugged filter and will cause flairs and all kinds of stuff.

It didn't seem like the temp had risen but I didn't go very far the last trip. It may not have even been long enough to get the trans up to temp. I was really hoping I didnt have to drop the pan but I suppose that is a much cheaper option than rebuilding if it doesnt need it.

:roflmao: :roflmao: i laugh because i told Mike that long ago. i got yelled at last time when my trans said "bye bye" cause i was well over that amount :D

I bought the truck along with an Edge Juice with attitude about 2.5 years ago and thought it was a vette killer. Trans blew and word on the street was EFI live could get you around 500hp. I bought an AD165, EGT and Boost gauge and headed down to have the trans built. While I was there I met a fellow named justin D and he ruined my life. At the time I thought building the trans with for a 600hp goal was overkill. Times have changed:spit:

I bought an AD165, EGT and Boost gauge and headed down to have the trans built. While I was there I met a fellow named justin D and he ruined my life. Truck has been sitting the past week and a half. Just picked up a deep pan filter from Chris. Plan is to drop the pan Saturday and put two fresh filters on it. Fingers crossed I can get it drivable for at least the next couple months. If not I'll be seriously considering my rebuild options for January.

Along with the p0700 I also have p2138 and p2140. Any chance they could be part of the problem. Says they are throttle position sensor codes. But they have come up in the past before I had trans issues.

Thank The Lord baby Jesus! Just dropped the pan, changed both trans filters, threw in some auto zone brand dex merc and away we went. Pan was filthy and both magnets were covered in fine shavings but I didn't completely fry it. Just running a baby tune and letting her learn but it shifts through all 5 gears and hasn't limped! Hopefully I can baby it til the spring but only time will tell.
