Getting ready to pull my trans and throw a trans kit in.

Any tips? Advice?
Manuals or guides to buy?
Specialty tools?
Parts ive forgotten?

The kit i have is a MA trans kit with converter, deep pan, pump rub kit, and billet shafts.

ATSG manual, gonna need a way to compress the c1 return spring cage down to open it up and get at the springs, and doing a billet output you're gonna need a socket to remove the spanner nut. I took an old chevy 4wd spindle nut socket, cut it in half and welded a piece of pipe in to make it deep enough then ground the teeth to fit the grooves.

The ATSG manual is pretty good. Tools, big snap ring pliars, assorted screw drivers, and other basic tools.

You'll have to make a tool to compress the spring cage in the C1/C2 drum so you can remove the snap ring. A piece of PVC or metal exhaust tubing with a section cut out and then placed in a shop press works well. Or you can use a big threaded rod with a nut to compress it. Its a little tricky the first time you do it.

Also, since you bought the kit from Eric, you should be able to call him for any tech support you might need when you are in the middle of the install.

oh and make sure you clean out both coolers and cooler hoses before startup as i learned lol its a bit of a job but separate all the lines and and i ran brake clean through everything first then ran some new oil then reassembled. most of the debris if any sits in the cooler in main cooling system not the separate unit out front of cooling stack. hope it helps

i made compressor tools from pvc pipe and cut them with sawzall and used all thread and couple pieces of angle iron could send dimensions if interested also need huge snap ring pliers quality set or need to manufacture a set from long needle nose pliers prfer cheap china ones easy to grind notch to hold rings also an old wooden table with large holes to put hub into it's pretty simple but you can get confused if you use a kit ... there tolerances are different from astc manual ... valve body isnt bad but would get spray lube for that and gel for the rest of the build and if you know someone at a shop to wash everything up it helps or atleast you can use solvent and a big pan and brush asortment and compressed air... it is a heavy beast a good engine stand modified to hold it helps ..it spreads out alot on disassembly so i would recommend second six foot table to lay out parts and zip locks for bolts and label as you disassemble take your time and keep it clean read the manual couple times before you start .. have someone that knows whats going on in there on speed dial!! hope you have hoist and jack don't know if i would do it on jack stands tranny 330# plus akward beast get drill bits for clearance check on reassembly and dental pick to remove seals and seal removal tool plus a seal driver to install pump seal and jam nut tool ,inch pound torque wrench for valve bodyand small foot pound for the rest ... :) and you might need access to dial guage to check other assemblys if new or from a kit!! got a kit last year and it was out of spec had to send it back with converter :( going to attempt again this year!!:woott:
