Driving around town you are not getting much airflow across your cooler, and you are running without lockup most likely. So 100-120 degrees over ambient isn't abnormal. If it's 100 outside, 200-220 for the trans is normal.

Tow haul in town will net you 1 to 2 miles to the gallon better and it will keep the trans locked up instead of slipping which I can only assume will help keep the trans a smig cooler.A deep pan will help some also.

I disagree. You will lose mileage in T/H in town cruising. Mileage gain is attained by getting into the highest gear possible as fast as you can. T/H has extended shifts and allows the engine to rev too high and shift late. You will lose mileage that way.

Just towed my camper today. 93 degrees out and my trans temp was almost 200.

If its a concern still I think Mike L sells a sweet trans cooler that works better then stock.

But doesn't tow haul eliminate any slippage anything above 20 mph? Kind if like a stick you slip it to get moving then no more slip as you shift threw gears???? I normal shifting the torque converter is always slipping till after 55 correct?

No disrespect Mike I know your the professional it's just the way I took it I guess.Isn't the stick more efficient because there's not slipping between gears?

You are missing my point. You are forgetting RPM. Extended rpm in a gear loses mileage.

A deep pan will NOT lower trans temps, only make it take longer to get hot. Now a deep aluminum pan with fins and cooler tubes through can help some as it will act as a radiator. And running in tow/haul mode will definitely lose you some mileage. I know I lowered my shift points down and helped my mileage around town. Keeping the converter locked can help with temps, but the higher RPM's will be counter productive to this. Stock cooler and DEX 3 and I would regularly see 200-210 around town in my BURB. Now with QUATRASYN fluid and a EARLS cooler I run right around 160.

After every summer, or even late spring, I feel like it is a good idea to clean the fins of the trans cooler out. This is the time of year when the most stuff is in the air, like dogwood seeds floating and insects, between the two your trans cooler can get pretty caked full and not allow the proper amount of air flow throught the core to do its job to its potential, then add a greater ambient heat index(called summer) and its just enough to get your trans fluid to its "breaking point" so to speak, where it can't absorb and shed the heat well enough. Imho

I agree 100%. Its amazing how much crap comes out. I actually got some screen like for a screen door and mounted it behind my grill. Not as fine but enough to catch crap. Seems to work great.

I have been meaning to do this same thing, glad to hear it works. Did you use plastic or metal screen material?
