I was driving my dads truck 2001 gmc 2500 hd duramax with the allison and he has the edge programmer in it. I cranked it up to level four and got on the gas hard, and now the engine light is on and it wont shift out of third gear. It has done this before and all we did was shut the truck off and and let it sit for a bit and it reset itself. However this time it is not resetting itself. What do i do?

the edge should clear all codes. never had a problem with mine that i had. go to the DTC code reader part of the edge. clear the codes and go if not call edge and let them know whats going on.
If it is a juice with attitude it does not have a code reader in it or at least when I had the edge it never did. Shutting it off should reset it but if it does not then something else may be wrong.

Went out to work on the truck today and everything is reset just need to get the engine light turned off. Thanks for all the help guys.
I believe it's start stop engine cycles that get it moving again and or eliminate the SEL light. If you don't have a scan tool like a Tech II or EFI or a Snap On tool see if you can go to a autoparts store like Advanced and see if they will clear it.

It is four or so cycles to get it out of limp mode... and that is full cycles, turn on-off, open close door, x4.
the old man knows i phoned him last night when it happened becuase he has done it before as well and knows what to do somewhat.
