OK so I changed from dino motor oil to Amsoil 15w-40 and I added 9 quarts should i start her up and wait til she warms up then check the level?

Also I just changed the allison spin on filter and I got the tranny from Chris and I didnt see a magnet on the filter itself and I obviously dont have one. Can I run it without the magnet for the weekend? The tranny fluid smells new.

The first time my old man had me change the spin on on his 03 there was no magnet. The only time it had been changed before was at the Stealer. He asked them about it and at that time (in early 04) and they seriously did not know there were magnets on them!

Hey anyone have a Mag-Hytec deep pan? Cause I just tried to pull the drain plug and it needed a 30 torx bit and the fuckin piece of shit tip broke off where the plug is. Any idea what to do? Besides drilling it out?

There is a temp sender tapped somewhere in it too, the back maybe.

I've busted a couple bits on that damn thing too. Luckily they were just a the socket end!

Kinda forgot, once I broke my one and only Torx I hammered a 5/16"(?) Allen bit in there, bent/broke some cheaper 1/4 drive ones, finally picked up a 3/8 drive bit and it worked MUCH better. Mine now is Allen only. :)

Might you have better luck taking it off the old messy way this time (drop the whole pan) and then try to get it out from the inside? Even if you end up having to drill it out you might have better luck drilling from the inside where you'll likely have a flatter surface to drill into, or is that too close to the sides/bottom. Either way, depending on length of plug you might be able to get something on it to try from the inside.

Ya I just went and bought a set of standard allen sockets, and a set of torx 3/8 drive sockets. Im leaving for Tahoe in a few hours, I was suppose to leave yesturday but this whole problem with the bit breaking off and running late into the night screwed up my plans. Im just going to wait til I get back and tap it out Im probably just going to buy an extra drain plug from Mag-Hytec just in case I destroy the existing one.

Did it break off flush? It's probably not wedged/jammed in there, as long as you got it seated all the way in. IIRC, I was able to get the piece out relatively easy with pliers.

LEO, The plug is recessed on the bottom and is flat, about the size of a half dollar, and the inside is a magnet.

i usually take a small cold chisel and hit with a small hammer on the outer edge of the screw in the direction that its supposed to turn-it works great on frozen screws and bolts-because of the impact effect

I would suggest trying to drill into the piece of the tip that broke off and see if it will pull out once you drill through it. If it doesn't you can stick a small screwdriver or pick in the hole and try to pry it out.

Also, no need to let the engine warm up to check the oil. I always crank mine up, wait for the oil pressure to come up, check for leaks from the drain plug and filter, shut it down, let it sit for a few minutes and then check/top it off. Transmission fluid needs to be warm to get a real reading on it. You can do a cold check to make sure it has enough to drive around, but to get a truly accurate reading it needs to be warm.

not sure i understood how flush it is, perhaps take a grinder to it (wheel should be about 1/16") then you can use a screwdriver or impact on it.

Just a humble suggestion
