X2, was it staying in 6th or did it drop to 5th.

19ft shouldnt be an issue unless you've loaded it with bricks or something

Sometimes on hills these trucks like to stay in 6th, but the temps start climbing esp with a trailer in tow. I've noticed that if its a long enough hill and the temps are climbing, get it to go into 5th raise the rpms up. But its usually just my egt that climbs not the coolant. I really cant even remember the last time, or if I've ever heard my fan kick in on the truck. I know I hear it on the van when pulling but the step child doesnt count:D

I would run 5th up the 10 mile hill for sure, and maybe even 4th depending on your tire size. Keeping the rpm's up will raise the trans temp a little, but the egt's will go down.

My fan doesn't come on unless the A/C is running and it only came on with the coolant temp once and that was when it was close to 225F as well. This was pulling my 8000# holiday trailer through the west Kootenay's-not running empty

Also, you could have a blockage between the intercooler and the radiator. Sometimes the IC needs to be removed and the radiator washed out. Bugs and mud are quite often the culprit!

X2 you dont need 6th gear. 6th is for running unloaded on flat ground not for towing. If you are traveling up a hill with a trailer at 90kmph you should definately be in 4th gear.

Happened once last week. I had about 10,000-11,000 cargo (truck camper+boat). EGT were fine, but temp started creeping up (230-240) as did the trans (200-210). Not sure why it did. The hill wasn't even that steep and it was only like 80-90 degrees out. Have Mike's trans cooler and Bee Oil Cooler as well! This was with the factory fans and shroud in place (usually run electric). Then on hotter days etc, temp never hit 200 again. Pretty strange.

I took the grill inserts out of my truck. In the winter, I need them to make any heat, but if I hook a trailer up I need to take them out or else the fan wants to run all the time.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was the 40°C temps that was causing some heat for you.

I just drove the rogers pass on friday afternoon, unloaded, and my fan was running regularly. OAT's were between 25 and 35°C. I was running a hot tune though, probably accounted for some of the heat.

I towed the boat from Salmon Arm to Vernon down hwy 97 on thursday and my fan was running. Engine temps didn't get out of line on the stock gauge.

Definitely throw it into 5th when towing, and into 4th for the hills. I usually get the rpm's up to about 2200-2500 to manage my egt's.
