I've got some questions and not sure where to post so I thought I'd start here, move if necessary.

I have a 35' 14k toyhauler I pull regularly and I'm thinking about some mods that will help with mpg and egt's. I'm already working on a trans upgrade and EFI DSP5 and was wondering if going up a size on the turbo would be worth the expense?

I'm currently running the Predator and have no issues with power but it tends to get warm even on the tow setting. I would like to keep the VVT style turbo. I looked around the vendors at twins but think the expense and difficulty at getting to the fuel filter would be a problem.

Not going to be pulling or going to the track just a DD/tower.

Any suggestions?

Here in the flat lands of east Texas going over tall bridges I'll see between 1200-1300 degrees in 5th maybe that isn't too warm but I want to travel up north thru steeper grades and not have to worry about burning it up.

predator tunes are not designed to run cool. you should get out of OD to cool off your egts and save your trans as well.

with a decent sized load those temps aren't bad at all, running a near continuous 1300 should be no problem and even high number for short periods is ok.

there is probably some room for improvement with better tunes but i dont see a whole lot.

try the stock tune and see what numbers you get

I have tried stock it pulls ok my mpg went way down 8mpg on flat roads. My temps never got over 1150 going over the bridge that saw well over 1200 with the Predator. My tuned mpg are between 10-11mpg.

I just am worried pulling some of the grades thru Arkansas and Tenn/N.Carolina.

EFI live, larger intercooler pipes, downpipe, and uppipes if you can swing it. The larger piping gave me a good EGT drop. Ive ran numerous turbos and now back to the stock charger due to being a broke college kid, but from my experience the intercooler pipes and downpipe i built gave me a good 100-150 egt drop on my LB7. I think if youre towing a heavy load and your egts are 1000-1200 you would be sitting pretty well.

well i know it would be a little of a pain, but i would just try it with the predator and if you become uncomfortable with the egt's you can always stop and change the tune on the next pull off..

i would be scared till i hit 1400 and stayed there for a little while

Why don't you start with doing like boost tubes, down pipe,up pipes and a bd exhaust manifold. All of that will not only help out egts but also help in performance and will be way less then a turbo up grade.

BD manifold will not matter. If you do manifolds contact Rick at profabperformance.com

Ok I'll look into this first. I didn't realize 1200-1300 wasn't too warm. Maybe with a good EFI tow tune it will be better also.

Thanks :thumb:

I'm going to look into the downpipe, manifolds, up pipes and as much as I don't want to give Banks any of my money maybe boost tubes while the trans is out. That and a good EFI tow tune I guess will help the most.
