Good afternoon

Have a couple of questions about towing, currently i have a 2007 duramax with an edge chip (CTS) installed. I want to be able to pull my toy hauler and not have to worry about temperature. I have pulled the trailer a couple of times and when i do the water temp raises i don't have far up it will go because i get scared and turn off the A/C and blast the heat to keep the engine cool. I was wondering what upgrades would be a good idea with out going overboard. And someone to do the work i heard underground diesel is a good shop in las vegas NV. Also i have had the chip on level 3 a couple of times and it puts the truck in limp mode just the truck it self no trailer, so any info on both items would be greatly appreciated

thank you cody bettencourt

What kind of limp mode, engine or trans? Have you washed the radiator out? How hot is it getting on your CTS? The dash gauges can be very inaccurate...

You should be more worried about egt than coolant. Define hot.

If you're limping the Trans on a tow tune then it's pretty hurt

How do i tell what limp mode its in, i know the truck will only do maybe 55 mph, after that happens i usually pull over turn the truck off and it resets itself. If not i have a code reader/reset and i use that. I have not washed my radiator out, now are you talking the fins or the inside of the radiator. I have not payed any attention on the CTS, next time i will have to look at the CTS.

My EGT varies from 600 to 1900 degrees on the CTS and engine coolant temp the middle is 210 and it climbs passed the tick mark between 210 260 so maybe 225-240 is how hot it gets on the dash gauge, I don't know how to tell if I'm limping the engine or trans. I believe one of the displays in the truck said engine degraded but I'm not to sure, also i have heard that i should change the trans oil filter. I still have the re-gen exhaust on the truck i thought about taking it off any suggestions?

When it limps you need to ck the code on the CTS, post it here so we know what your dealing with... You have the CTS monitor correct? If so check your coolant temp on that and compare it to what the dash gauge is reading.

1900?

Read the codes next time don't just clear them. And do as mentioned above then report back

What's the trailer weigh? If it's hot out that isn't an unusual temp for coolant. I hope those aren't the egts you see though

Probly the fuel rail code, that's about the speed up get when the filter is getting plugged or the fuel line is collapsing under load.
