Guys, what gear are you pulling 10,000 + pound load in?? 5th or 6th? I want to get the best fuel mileage possible. And at what speeds are you seeing the best economy at??

I have a long road trip pulling a 12,000 pound boat.

Thanks

Waid

I pulled my goose for 350 miles loaded to 17K (trailer and cargo). I put her in drive, turned on the tow/haul, and set the cruise at 65. It only downshifted out of 6th twice on long grades. I kept toggling to the tranny temp(DIC) and it never got above 165 degrees in 70 degree weather. I got 11.3 mpg on a 700 mile round trip.

I would put it in drive T/H on and use the cruise controll (Under 65mph) as much as possible if I was going for economy. But I only have a 5sp and my Donzi (10klbs) usually is following my truck at around 75-80mph with out breaking a sweat, but definetly sucking some fuel... Did you buy a boat or just moving one?

To answer better. "I" didn't buy the boat, my dad did. We are big into blue water fishing. I am simply picking it up for him/us. We don't want to leave the boat down on the coast through the winter, so it is coming home (North AL) for now.

It's a Wellcraft Scarab CC 352 with triple yamaha's.

Thanks. What about that donzi? Is it fast:angel:?

Nope:( It more of a cruiser, 30' single merc 454 H.O. dual prop, Tops out around 57mph if theres 2 or 10 people on board. Its fun for weekend get aways and such. I was on a couple boats recently that are probably more your style, fishing halibit and salmon in Alaska a couple months back:thumb:. Right now we are trying to set up a fishing trip in Costa Rica for feb:)

Yup my next boat is gonna have a little more get up and go:D As far as fishing costa Rica, It really doesn't matter just nice to get out of the cold N.Y. winter for a little bit. I was over there 2 years ago with 8 other guys and we didn't catch anything but had a blast;):D

My best mileage towing was in 5th, I only have 5 anyway, at 64 mph. That works out to 1900 ish rpm's. That is before my current mods. I got 12 mpg pulling 10,000lbs. This was also fairly level highway (western half of Tennessee through Little Rock).
