Torque converter shutter?

Okay so I've got a 2007 LBZ Duramax with 113k miles on it. I'm running EFI live and a airdog 100GPH lift pump and transgo JR. It seems latley in my 100HP tune or my 150HP If I hammer it on a rolling start when it shifts into 3rd it will shutter really quick like 2 maybe 3 just really soft bumps. Doesn't slow down, passengers don't notice, just me lol. I thought maybe it was just slight axel wrap but after doing some reading I'm think my my torque converter? I also read alot of people's said there's does it and it's been fine? Don't notice it in my higher gears just sometimes if I hammer it from like a 40 roll when it shifts to the next gear. Don't really notice it if I hammer it from a stop but it could do it then to. Not sure! If it's pretty normal I'm fine with it. Just wondering if maybe I should get my tunes turned down a little. I mostly play on my 100HP tune! Thanks for any advice or help!

It may last 100+k and it may last 10k. Mine made it 30k on a 90 horse tune. Used the 120 tune a handful of times and the 150 tune twice.

I think anything over a 120 tune is pointless on a stock trans, it's only gonna handle it for a short time before the shudder becomes a full slip or you fry your c1's rolling drunk down I-79 at 2 in the morning.

So does what I described sound like torque converter shutter? If so how bad is it? I can stick to my 100hp tune from now on. May get my tuner to adjust my 150 tune down to a 120 tune so I don't have any temptation's! Lol

Do you have a way of monitoring tcc rpm? When it locks up you should see 0rpms. When you roll on the throttle when it is locked up it better stay at 0 or very close to it. If you see the rpms going up tc is slipping.

If your tc is slipping turning down the power will help but it will only slow down the process. Keep an eye on your transmission temps.

I don't personally have a way but I'll discuss the issue with my tuner. He's a local guy and is very help full. I'll see if he can hook his computer up and check it out. I'll report back soon. Might be a few days before I can get him to check it out though! Thanks alot guys!

Okay so I had my tuner drive my truck, although he didn't have his computer to hook up to it he drove it and feels confident it's torque converter shutter. It happens when shifting at 60mph. Does it even on my 35HP tow tune but NOT on stock. fluid is clean and not burnt, my trans doesn't get got and I have no codes. Does this sound like a converter? If so how long do y'all think it will last. I had my race tunes adjusted down to 90 and 120! Is torque converter shutter really bad or is it just something thats annoying and will slowly get worse and worse? Sorry for my ignorance just trying to get some piece of mind. It might be 8 months or so before I can get my built trans. I don't dog on my truck much but do get on it every once in awhile and I always lift off the throttle for 4-5 and 5-6 shifts! In piece of mind or experience with a shuttering converter would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

TQ Converter

My LBZ tow truck was doing the same thing when towing heavy. Then it was doing it with just a 4k or so load on it. I put a Dacco billet single disc in it trying to be cheap. It worked great for two trips towing the hillbilly hauler with the rock buggy on it. Last weekend coming through the hills in Kentucky it shifted down from 5th to 4th and BAM! no lockup at all. I went all the way home from northern Kentucky to central Ohio in 4th gear so the converter wouldn't slip so bad and heat the tranny up. I guess what I'm getting at is by a good converter the first time and be done with it. Now I'm on the hunt for a good cheap converter! lol I bet the truck doesn't make 350 to the tires ad I thought being a cheap a$$ I could get away with a billet single disc and be fine. :roflmao:

Torque converter shutter is bad LBZ. If you keep letting happen, you will quickly cook the converter, plug up your trans cooler, plug up your internal filter and then kill the clutches in the Trans.

I suggest you leave it at or close to stock if you want it to live. My buddies Lbz with a Trans go jr can't hold anything over the 40hp tune without converter shutter. Some trucks just can't take the power others can
