Yes someone else has had it happen to them on this site but I don't remember who. Maybe it was Maxfarmer......?????
Happened to him 2 times IIRC.
Don't know why though:confused:

we had one in the shop about a month ago. the ear wasn't broken complete, but it was cracked dead center of the bolt hole, and it traveled up into the body of the starter, probably wasn't long til it broke, but the thing would not start the truck. the torque must of been moving it enough to sound like a broken flywheel tooth.

I wonder how many of these cracked starters were removed and reinstalled previously prior to the cracking? I have removed and installed over 600 starters without a problem and have never seen a cracked one. Just a thought.

well, mike the tech doing the job had ordered a flywheel. had installed the flywheel and we were putting the starter back in, i help him do the t/c bolts while he sits underneath spinning the engine, so i grabbed the starter to set it in place for him while i was right there and i noticed the crack. i wonder how many flywheels have been chewed up due to the crack and the stater not being stable.

I'v come across loose starter bolts before. Some finger loose but some were just not tight enough. This condition could cause the starter to move around a bit and that could lead to something not so good. Havent seen a cracked or broken one yet.:joker:

I have a starter just like that. Just needs a new mount plate. Hell I actually have that starter on my truck with the mount plate from another starter on it. Need to find a place to just buy the mount plate, it's easy to swap it out.

Mine that fell out had been off about a year before that, replaced by the dealer. The bottom bolt rattled loose and fell out, then the top of the mount plate broke.
