Been looking around for some good used tires for my 20'' rims. My truck is has the keys dropped and 2'' drop shackles. find an ad for some 285/70R20 tires that the guy says are 33'' tall. Um.... no! That would be 35.7 inches tall. He says that 35'' tall tires are 295-315 in metric and these are 285 so they are 33. Well... good luck with the sale...IDIOT!

From the calculator posted above:

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
285/70-20 7.9in 17.9in. 35.7in 112.2in 565 0.0%

There are too many people that dont understand how the metric measurement works on tires. Might be a 33 if it was a 50 series tire...

Easy way to do the calculation for you guys:
Example:305/55R20
305-section width(divide this number by 25.4 to get the inch equivelent) 12"
55-aspect ratio(multiply inches from section width this number as a percentage. Because the aspect ratio is a percentage of the width which makes the sidewall height)
12*.55=6.6(multiply this number by 2 because you have the top and bottom sidewall)
=13.2
Then 20 is the wheel size so just add it to the 13.2

There you have a 33.2" tire
